I know there has to be an easy way to read them but I have to admit I don't know much about PC's. Thanks for any help you can give me. Karen Bruggman toletutor@aol.com Keep on Searching......

Mary, b. 1794 Washington Co., PA; m. Jerub Baldwin 1817 Stark Co., OH. Francis, b. 1795 in York Co., PA; m. Margaret Young and Mary Baldwin; d. aft. 1850. We think that Benjamin's father might be John Eliot. Beyond that, I am not sure, but would welcome any further information that anyone on this list has. Attached is an article that was sent to me, that implies a connection between this line and Bennet Eliot who m. Letitia Aggar. In this article, The Moses and Jeremiah mentioned in the fourth paragraph are my line; my 3g and 2g grandfather, respectively. Jeremiah ended up in Idaho and we believe he died there. His wife is buried there. As you can see, this article links this family back to Bennet, but there seems to be a gap of about 100 years between Benjamin's father, John, and Bennet. In addition to attaching the article, I'm also inserting it here: >From "Logan County, Ohio 1982" - Biographical sketches: Isaac Eliot (Elliott), Sr. (1756 - (a) 1839) and his wife, Alice Wilkinson, were dedicated pioneers to the Quaker Faith and early colonization. Isaac's father, Bejamin Eliot (Elliott) was born abt. 1694 and died 1780. Historical record show that Benjamin was one of three brothers who migrated from the Colony of Massachusetts to the region of York and Chester Counties, Pennsylvania, not far from Philadelphia. After the Revolutionary War of 1776, his two brothers, Jacob Eliot (Elliot) and Abraham Eliot (Elliot) moved to South Carolina. Isaac Elliot lived in York and Washington Counties, Pennsylvania and raised eight children: Benjamin, Joseph, Isaac, Jr., Elizabeth, Alice, Mary, Moses and son, Francis. Some of their descendants moved farther west to Hardin, Union and Logan Counties of Ohio. Moses Elliot was the father of Jeremiah Elliot who located in Hardin County and in 1851 built the first saw mill at Mt. Victory in Hale Township. A seven page typewritten report, dated 1 October 1875, was signed by Simon D. Elliot, Chairman, Asa Elliot, Secretary, with an appendix signed by Mary Elliott Koons of Byhalia and Josie F. Bates. At this time, there were about one hundred thirty descen dants of Benjamin Eliot (Elliot) at a family reunion held at the Union Meeting House three miles east of Zanesfield, Logan County, Ohio. The following statement from and for the record was made: Regarding spelling of the name Eliot, Elliot, or Elliott - - "my grandfather's grandfather's name was John Eliot (the name was spelled Eliot until my grandfather's time and he still contended that was the right way)." A great many of the Elliotts of Hardin, Union and Logan Counties of Ohio trace back through the ancestors of Isaac, Benjamin and John Elliott families. This line of ancestors are direct descendants of Bennett (a) 1568 and Leticia Aggar Eliot, middle cla ss farmers of Wilford, Essex, England. Their six children, in order to gain religious and political freedom, came by sailing ship to the new world and landed near Boston, Massachusetts. The party weighed anchor in mid October on the sailing ship "Lyon" (one of the larger ships of its time) from Bristol, England with sixty persons on deck. From the time they were out of sight of Wales and land, they hit open sea. With only one severe s torm near the end of October, they pushed through smooth waters with a fine breeze. Everybody was happy and hopeful. John Eliot conducted morning prayers on deck. On 2 November 1623, they anchored safely off Deer Island outside the mouth of the Charles River where they all could see the Blue Hills of Massachusetts. The next morning they lifted anchor and moved up the mouth of the Charles River where the little settlement of Boston was located. Here the landing party was welcomed by Governor Winthrop and a swarming, shouting, cheering crowd. Bennett and Leticia Eliot's second son, John Eliot, 31 July 1604 to 20 May 1690, and his wife Hannah raised six children: Hannah 2nd, John 2nd, Joseph, born 30 December 1638, Samuel, Aaron and Benjamin, 29 January 1647 to 10 October 1687. From this John Eliot, much early American history has been recorded. John's parents, Bennett and Leticia Eliot, were a very religious family, strict but kind, a very good natured family, hard workers, very serious and loved books and religious literatur e. Desirous of gaining religious and political freedom and with their decision to become Pilgrims, John and his wife, along with his oldest brother, Jacob and wife Margery, next brother Francis and his wife Mary Saunders, his fourth and youngest brother Phi lip and wife Elizabeth, along with John's older sister, who was married to William Curtise and his youngest sister, Elizabeth who was married to John Perry -- all migrated to America. "John Eliot became known through out the Colonies in the new world as "The Man Who Loved the Indians." In the early days of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, John battled intolerance and ignorance to help the Indians. He was the first to establish model com munities for them. His translation of the Bible into their language was one of the colossal achievements of the seventeenth century." The Elliott families of Hardin County were recently reminded by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Williams, Jr. of Byhalia,Ohio, that because of the outstanding deeds, work, dedication, and accomplishments of one of our early ancestors, Harvard University had set up a scholarship program a long time ago. That program, we are told, still exists today and is available to all descendants of John Eliot, the Pilgrim Puritan, Pioneer Immigrant who dedicated his lifetime work as a preacher, minister, friend, confidant and t ranslator of the Lord's Holy Word -- "The Bible" into the native Indian language. This scholarship is available to any and all descendant Elliotts who elect to study Christian Philosophy and go into the Missionary field. ------------------- END OF ARTICLE ------------- If anyone can help with the links between John and Bennet, I'd be most interested to see what you have. In addition, any other information about this line would be very much appreciated. It has been brought to my attention that I have the wrong date for Isaac ELLIOT jr's birthdate. it should be 13 June 1787. Also the date for Benjamin ELLIOT's son Isaac, should not have said 13 June 1787, York Co.Pa.( that's his sons birthdate, and place.) sorry for any inconvinience.......J Crafard

Dear Judith and List: First, I want to thank you for all the messages you've posted to the list today, Judith, regarding our Isaac who m. Alice Wilkinson, etc.; and I will try to respond to them all here, not just the one shown below. Also, I want to tell you that I am so glad to be in touch with a cousin in this line, and am especially pleased that you may be able to shed some light on Isaac, Jr. and his three wives; so perhaps we can compare notes on that. For his marriages, I have: 1) Ruth McCall, m. Nov. 6, 1805 in Pike Run, Washington Co., PA Children: John, Sarah, Phebe, Joseph, James, and Ruth. I have no dates, spouses or children for these children. 2) Agnes Dewire, m. Feb. 25, 1819 in Stark Co., Ohio. Children: I show none. 3) Rebecca Greer, m. Dec. 27, 1821, no location known. Children: William, George, Thomas, Abraham, Belinda, and Matthew. For these, I have dates, spouses and some children. I note that you have Rebecca Greer as Rebecca Greer Dwire; and that Agnes Dewire is Agnes Dwire. Since you are a descendant of this line, I will take these names over the others, which were off a web site. Also, do you happen to know what the relationsihp was between Agnes and Rebecca? I'm guessing they were in-laws of some degree. Another discrepancy I show is that I have a date of birth for Isaac, Jr. of June 13 (you have 13 and 23), 1787. Again, since he's your ancestor, I'll change my 13 to 23, if that is the date you are using. For Isaac, Sr. you show he was born about "about 1756." I have an exact d.o.b.: March 24, 1756. Your listing of children for Isaac ELLIOTT, Sr. and Alice WILKINSON matches mine, with the exception that I also show a son, William, b. Feb. 15, 1780 in York Co., PA; d. Feb. 15, 1860 in Lexington Twp., Stark Co., OH; m. Ann UNDERWOOD; one child of this marriage: Thomas G. ELLIOTT. Does anyone else have this William? Of course, I am also wondering about some of the relationships among the spouses of the children of Isaac and Alice; i.e. Isaac, Jr., Elizabeth and Alice all married McCalls. Do you or does anyone on the list know how these McCalls (Ruth, William and Joseph) were related to eachother? Also, Mary and Francis both married Baldwins -- Jerub and Mary respectively. Were these two Baldwins siblings? In the message shown below, you list the children that you have for Benjamin Elliott and Ann Wall. I'm glad to see a listing of their children, because I only have one child for them, that being Isaac ELLIOTT, Sr., who m. Alice WILKINSON. Thus, I am a bit perplexed about the inclusion of Isaac, Jr. (b. 13 June 1787) in this listing of Ben's and Ann's children. I'm sure you meant to put Isaac, Sr. d.o.b. there (?). But, in any event, it is good to finally have a listing of the children of this couple. Judith, if you would be interested is trading information on our respective lines, I'd be glad to do so, too. We could exchange .GED, .FTW, or .txt (or .rtf) files, via e-mail or snail mail, whichever works best for you. Again, thanks for all your responses, and I'll look forward to hearing more from you.
