Greetings, In Pulaski Co., KY there is a marriage bond: 9-May-1839 John ELLIOTT and Matilda ASHBROOK. George Coomer Surety made, oath bride of age. George Coomer, Matilda's brother-in-law, is surety even though her father, James Ashbrook, was living - which implies that dad did not approve of the upcoming marriage between Matilda and John Elliott. The next record I find for Matilda Ashbrook- she appears in neighboring Russell Co., KY on the 1850 census with son William Ashbrook, age 10. She is using the ASHBROOK surname. BUT apparently the marriage never occurred? OR they divorced? OR John died before the child William was born in 1840? OR John wasn't the father? OR am I missing something? Anyone researching Elliotts in KY? Anyone have suggestions? Debbie
