Still looking for information on Jonathan Elliott's parents and siblings. He was born 1804 in Chester Co., SC and was in Perry Co., AL by 1830. Thanks, Sandra
I'll send the url to this later, Roland, the following is the complete context of the message though. Antoinette ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My family has recently found an old Elliott family Bible, and would like to see it returned to a rightful owner. Information from the Bible follows: Inside the front cover is written "William J. Elliott" and "To Byron K. Elliott October 25, 1855" There is also a copy of the Bulletin of the Indianapolis Public Library, vol. IV, No. 10 from November of 1908 tucked inside the front cover. In the family history area, we have the following: "William J. Elliott, second son of James and Margaret Elliott was born August 24, 1809. Mary L. Taylor, eldest daughter of Joseph and Rhoda Taylor was born July 20th, 1813." William J. and Mary L. were married on September 2, 1834. To them were born the following children: Byron K. Elliott b. 4 Sep 1835 Joseph Taylor Elliott b. 24 Jan 1837 Margaret Ann Elliott b. 15 Dec. 1838 d. 29 Jan. 1840 Aged one year, one month, and 13 days. Samuel Wilson Elliott b. 29 Sep 1840 Emma Martha Elliott b. 29 Sep 1842 Florence Caroline Elliott b. 4 Aug 1845 William D. Elliott b. 4 Oct 1849 Mary L. Elliott, wife of William, died 9 Sep 1849, in Hamilton, Ohio, and is buried in Greewood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio. Byron K. Elliott married Harriet (Hattie) A. Talbott (b. 21 Mar 1836) on 5 Sep. 1855. Hattie died on 8 Aug 1903 in Indianapolis, Indiana and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. Byron and Hattie had three children, all born in Indianapolis, Indiana. May Harriet Elliott b. 7 Nov 1857 d. 2 Dec 1857 Aged three weeks, four days. William Frederick Elliott b. 29 Apr. 1859 Cora Genevieve Elliott b. 14 Jan 1864 The last entry in the Bible is the death of Byron K. Elliott on 19 Apr 1913. There are also quite a few pictures that we found with the Bible, and we can't identify any of the people. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ELLIOTT and F. G. ELLIOTT were assoc. with the following G. W. MCKINNEY, and I'm trying to determine how and who they were.) In May 1872, a G. W. McKINNEY, a laborer working on the RR in Choctaw IT, killed a Nimrod SHAW with a blow from a shovel. (He later testified it was in self-defense and was eventually found innocent of murder but it is all very vague.) Upon SHAW's death, G. W. said he was fleeing the area for Colorado. He later turned up at Ft. Concho Texas where was living a Jonathan MILES who had been working over him on the RR. MILES, whose son had had some sort of disagreement with MCKINNEY and had shot him, notified Ft. Smith and a deputy AYERS was sent down to pick up G. W. MCKINNEY and bring him back to stand trial for murdering SHAW. I have the transcript of MILES' testimony and other names given as being present at the time were Isaac LIGHTLE (a teamster from Neosho Co. KS), a man named WARREN, J. BERRY, Orange FULLER, Bill COUCH, Ed LATHAM (perhaps), Elias JONES, a man named PECKWOOD, Hugh PALMER, Pete KELLY and Jim COUCH. In his defense, G. W. MCKINNEY had called as material witnesses B. F. HOGAN, George R. HIGHSMITH, Walter S. WILLIAMS, Thomas MCKINNEY, F. G. ELLIOTT and Landon F. ELLIOT. Court record gives them as traveling from Ray and Carroll Counties in the state of Missouri. G. W. MCKINNEY stated that Dr. George R. HIGHSMITH and Thomas B. MCKINNEY had known him most of his life. Have been attempting to determine who exactly this G. W. MCKINNEY was as the jacket with all the trial information I got from Ft. Worth says nothing about G. W. McKINNEY's age, nor where he was from, nor does it mention immediate family such as wife and children. My ancestor G. W. MCKINNEY was in Neosho Co. KS in 1870, (where LIGHTLE was apparently from), after which I'm unable to locate him for another 15 years, but as far as I know he has no connections with any Missouri McKINNEYS, being from Ohio>IA. If any of the above strikes a chord with anyone and they can give any further information illuminating this G. W. MCKINNEY, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Juli

For some years I have been trying to unravel the details of a family story handed down to me concerning my g-g grandfather William Elliott. The story tells of William Elliott, his wife Rebecca (nee Wilson) and their three children Jane ,William, and Thomas leaving Irvinestown in County Fermanagh and emigrating to North America sometime in the 1840s. After both parents died in North America, William Elliott junior, now in his early twenties, returned to Ireland. I can trace William from this point. On 25 January 1857, he married Rebecca Moffitt, daughter of John and Mary Moffitt (nee Irvine), in the CofI church at Kilskeery, County Tyrone. William and Rebecca emigrated to Moreton Bay, Australia, arriving on the 9th of August 1857. In later years they lived at Gerringong and at Makenny Hill, Clunes in New South Wales. Without a ships name, arrival date and arrival port, I cannot confirm William and Rebecca's journey to North America. If any lister can suggest a helpful source or has information on this family I would be glad to hear from them. Carole Elliott

Of course there was no Darby twp or even Chester Co before Penn arrived in 1682ish. Are you sure your dates are right? To find land ownership you would look at warrants granted by Penn and mostly his sons. I'm not sure when PA became known as a Commonwealth, as it was usually called a colony until 1775. The PA Archives (a group of about 100 books) gives early land records, taxes, disputes, etc. The Colonial Records are indexed so you should check there. As far as Scots arriving in Americ. Dodson has written many books on the Scots arriving here, one of which was for the early ones along the Chesapeake. As for the Swedes who came in early 1600s into what is now New Castle Co, DE they did go up the Delaware and then the Schuylkill Rivers to settle and so would have also been in now Chester Co. Dr. Peter Craig's book on the Swedes in 1693 might have a reference to any Scots among them. Cathy ----- Original Message ----- From: by way of Yvonne O.
