I looked at the Hinshaw book for North Carolina Elliotts yesterday. The author who indicated that the Perquimans Elliotts did not migrate to the Randolph area seems to have been mistaken. I found Exum who was Jacob and Zelpha's Davenport Eliott's son attending the Back Creek Monthly Meeting in Randolph County. Exum was part of the original membership. So indeed at least one line of the Perquimans Elliotts moved on to the Randolph/Guilford County area. Back Creek was set up in 1792. Exum later moved to Indiana with his family. The New Garden Monthly Meeting of Quakers according to Hinshaw was set up in 1754 in Guilford County, NC by direction of Perquimans and Little River Quarterly Meeting because of the hardship for these people of attending monthly meeting at Cane Creek . It seems that in 1763 Jacob Ellott and wife and children, Jacob, Elizabeth, Hannah Israel, and William, were received on certifictate from Warrington MM, Pa dated 1763,9,20. In 1765 Abraham and his wife Priscilla and children Stephen, Ruth, John, Samey, Joseph, Abraham, Hester, Jemima, were recieved on certificate from Warrington MM, Pa dated 1764,7,14. Endorsed by Cane Creek MM, NC 1765,1,5 In 1782 Jacob Ellot and wife Elizabeth and children William, Abraham, Elizabeth, and Rachel were received on certificate from Center MM, NC dated 1781,7,21. In 1784 Jacob Ellot and wife Elizabeth and children William, Abraham, Elizabeth, and Rache, granted certificate to Center MM Now I am hoping that one of these Abrahams is my Catherine's father. Thanks. > Sorry that I did not get the second information out yesterday....just ran out of time...but here it is: I had a chance to look at Dollarhide's Census book to see that the counties of Perquimans and Randolph do not adjoin. And one of the authors that I read seemed to think that the Perquimans Elliotts were one group and that the the Elliots that settled in the Piedmont area of NC of which Randolph and Guilford counties would be a part were a separate line having come down from Pennsylvania. If this author is correct, I do not believe that my Elliotts would come from Perquimans. In 1790 there was only one Abraham Elliott in Perquimans county and today's research (if the authors that I read are correct) tells me that that man was probably the son of Thomas who was the grandson of the orginal Thomas Elliott of Perquimans. This Abraham was born circa 1775 and married Juliana Wilson. They did not have a son named Abraham nor a daughter named Catherine. So now I am zeroing in on the three Abrahams who appear in the 1790 census in Randolph County. Marsha in Wv

John, I would like to think that we will eventually find a connection between my Catherine and your Joseph. Unfortunately I read all of the LDS films that I had ordered very quickly today and did not find anything significant. I do not know if I will get back to reread before the films are sent back. But I am getting a feeling for the North Carolina Elliott families. Your Joseph was probably of the same generation as my Catherine as she was born 14 Feb 1795. You are probably already aware of the mass exodus of the Quakers from North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina during the first decade of the 1800s. Even if our Elliotts were not still Quakers or were never Quakers, they may have been migrating with Quaker families. The fact above that makes me not just shrug off a possible connection between our Elliotts is the Montgomery County, IN location. >From what I read today there were many Elliott families who may or may not have been related who moved to Indiana during the second decade of the 1800's. But my Catherine Elliott married to Nehemiah McKinsey is said to have moved first to Vigo County. It is said that her parents moved with them. Perhaps other siblings moved as well. Nehemiah and Catherine moved on to Montgomery County by 1822 as their middle four children were born there between 1822 and 1829. The last of their children were born in Clinton County between 1831 and 1833. And both Nehemiah and Catherine died in Clinton County and were buried there. But perhaps it is not a coincidence that your Joseph was married in the same county as they were living--close to the same time. I will write another e-mail telling you where I am zeroing in on looking for Catherine's birth location and why. Do you have any other information about your Joseph? marsha in Wv

I am a new member to this list. I have not yet had time to read past messages in the archives. I have looked at Yvonne's most wanted pages and corresponded with several of you who have posted there. I am asking for a little help this morning. My interest in the Elliott family begins with Catherine Elliott when she marries Nehemiah McKinsey in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio 28 March 1816. Catherine is said to have been of lawful age by the oath of Joshua Burnam. (doggone it! no father mentioned) I have looked in Hinshaw and no mention is made of Catherine being dismissed from the Quaker church because of marrying out of the faith so that fact is probably not because she was marrying outside of the Quaker faith. But this area of Ohio was settled so heavily by Quakers and families who had intermarried Quakers I suspect that the Elliotts had been Quakers in NC at some point in history. One of the censuses that I have looked at and a book on McKinsey family history says that Catherine was born in NC. This researcher says that her father was Abraham Elliott and her mother Rachel. With the help of the NC maillist I have seen that there were five Abraham Elliotts living in NC in 1790-1800 time period when Catherine is said to have been born. So I do not doubt this fact even though I have not yet proved it. Three Abraham Elliotts were living in the Randolph County area in 1790 and one in Perquimans County. By 1800 there was one in each of the two counties. Byt 1810 the one in Perquimans had disappeared leaving only the Abraham Elliott in Randolph. So it is possible that Catherine's father could have come from either county. One more thing that I might say in introduction to my line of Elliotts is that in my data base I have the following: After Nehemiah was mustered out of the Ohio Militia at Waynesville, Ohio and his marriage to Catherine Rachel Elliott, they along with her parents, migrated to Indiana in 1816. Nehemiah took up his Bounty Lands along the Wabash River in Vigo County, Indiana-- Between Terre Haute and Vincennes. They remained there until about 1822 when they moved on into the wilderness that was Montgomery Co. Ind. They settled on Sugar Creek about seven miles from where the city of Crawfordsville now stands. I do not know for sure if more of Catherine's family went along as well...nor if her parents remained with Nehemiah and Catherine..I seem to remember that the author of this book knew where they were buried, but I do not have that information at my fingertips. But I have noticed that MANY of the Elliotts from NC ended up in Indiana. I am getting ready to go to my local LDS FHL today to read microfilm and fiche that I have ordered about the NC Elliott families hoping to get some clues as to whether all of these families connect back to the same original immigrant or possibly brothers who immigrated together. The help that I am asking is for any of you on the mail list to let me know if you research the same lines and point me in the right directions on the archives and any websites that might give me a headstart on my research. Looking forward to chatting with many of you over the next few months. I am sending a second e-mail listing some of the materials that I have ordered and will be looking at for the next couple of weeks. Thanks Marsha in Wv
