    1. [ELLIOTT] John Elliott of Pennsylvania "late 17th century"
    2. I have obtained a copy of an old letter that contains the quote shown below. It apparently was family tradition -- no sources are provided! Does anyone on the List have any "documented" evidence to support the following paragraph? Or, can you claim any of these as a proven ancestor? "In the latter part of the 17th century one John Elliott came from England with the Quaker followers of William Penn and settled in Pennsylvania. This emigrant had three sons: Benjamin of Pennsylvania and Jacob and Abraham who removed to the Carolinas...." The branch of the Elliott tree with this tradition, are the descendants of John Elliott and Susannah Claver Elliott. John and Susannah were married in Rowan Co., NC, 18 Sep 1787. The "tradition" handed down is that this John Elliott was a grandson of Jacob Elliott mentioned in the preceding paragraph. Any facts that would help prove or disproved the claims of the family story would be greatly appreciated. Dan Elliott

    3. OK--two list members were nice enough to give me information on Abraham Elliott Jr. and Sr. in the 1790 Randolph County census. Their information agreed and I accept the fact that neither man is the Abraham Elliott that I am looking for. Does anyone on the list claim the third Abraham Elliott? He has in his household one male over 16, two under 16 and two females. It looks as if there are lots of Elliott families living in Randolph County in 1790. Here are the heads of household: William Elliott # Israel Elliott Obediah Elliott Peter Elliott John Elliott * Abraham Elliott Jr * Samuel Elliott * Abraham Elliott # Joseph Elliott * Jacob Elliott Abraham Elliott Sen The last two had more than one male over 16.....as did the first one--William. All of the rest had only one male over 16 making me think that they may have had a young family living at home. Joseph and Jacob had large families....most of the rest had 3, 4 or 5 family members. The men that I marked with a star may be siblings---the children of Abraham Senior. But that is just a guess from looking at Sue's website. According to Hinshaw, Jacob Elliott had children: William, Abraham,Elizabeth, and Rachel in 1782. So if the Abraham with no Jr. or Sr above is my Abraham, it is possible that he is Jacob's son. And if that is the case, the two marked with a # may have been siblings sharing their father, Jacob. That leaves Peter, Obediah, and Israel unaccounted for. Does anyone claim any of these people? Particularly does anyone claim the Abraham without Jr. or Senior after his name. Originally I had discounted him because of information in Leon Elliott's book. He said that Abraham Elliott, son of Joseph (b.1763 and m. Jessee Silas). Abraham was born in Guilford County and was the first of the Quakers to come to Indiana. But Hinshaw listed Jacob with a son Abraham when the family was rocf into New Garden MM from Center MM in 1782 and then gct from New Garden to Center in 1784. 3. In the census of 1790 there are three Abraham Elliotts in Randolph County, NC. I believe that the one without either a Jr or Sr after his name may have been the son of Joseph Elliott--b. 1763 and married to Jessee Silas. This Abraham may have also have been the man wo was discharged from the Quaker church in 1816 for dancing, and then he went to Indiana. If the Sr. and Jr. after the other two men indicates a father and son, I believe that the two men could be Abraham who was married to Priscilla both of whom along with their children were received by the New Garden Monthly Meeting in Guilford County from Warrington MM, Pa in 1765. Abraham Sr. is married to the wrong woman to be my man. But his son could be the right age to have married a Rachel and had a daughter named Catherine in 1795. There is one Abraham Elliott in Perquimans County as well, but I do not think that he is my man because this man is said to have been the son of Thomas and to have married Juliann Wilson--not the right wife for my man. Anyone on this list know anything about any of these people? Marsha in WV

    3. I borrowed a book called Genealogy of the Elliott family by Leon D. Elliott from the LDS FHL. The book has a copyright of 1942. It has somewhat unrelated Elliott family information. On the pages headed Indiana, Mr. Elliott lists the following people who were born in Vigo County, Indiana: Martha Jane Elliott born 1836 who married Abraham Stark in 1875 Matilda Elliott born 1838 married in 1856 to Joseph Thomas Julia Ann Elliott born 1840 died 1883 Sarah Elliott born 1841--lived near Coffee, Indiana Married Egbert Stark 1876 Josephine Elliott b. 1844 died 1845 William Elliott born 1846--proprietor of the Henderson House in Terre Haute married Nancy Johnson Robert Elliott married Isabella Johnson (their children were Edith Elliott who married William Lefarge and William Armstrong who married Zilla Rector and nahd one child Mildred Lucile Elliott) The Vigo County births definitely catch my attention. My Nehemiah McKinsey moved with his wife Catherine Elliott McKinsey and her parents, Abraham and Rachel Elliott to Vigo County Indiana just after they married in 1816. By 1840 Nehemiah and Catherine were living in Clinton County, Indiana. But perhaps one or more of Catherine's siblings made the original move with the McKinseys and Abraham and Rachel Elliott. Perhaps the above are nieces and nephews of Catherine. Is there anyone on the list who researches the above people? Marsha in WV
