    1. Elliotts in Ireland
    2. Jane Dixon Anderson
    3. I have been tracing the Elliott family of Counties Fermanagh & Donegal for 10 years. Many of the notes I see on this list are searching for Elliotts in the US - but I'm wondering if there are those out there looking for Elliotts back to Ireland. My earliest ancestor in this line was James Elliott, born in 1780 in Drumawark, County Fermanagh. He married Margaret and they had five children: James (1825), Ann, Jane, John, and another Ann (the first Ann most likely died). Drumawark, like the nearby and slightly larger town of Pettigo, is in Templecarn Parrish. I will be going to Ireland in a few weeks and seeing my Irish cousins again. I'm just curious if anyone has gotten this far back in the research. - Jane Dixon Anderson

    3. Hi Doris It can admittedly sometimes be confusing when messages from the Rootsweb message boards, on which anyone can post, are also gatewayed to the mailing list which require subscribers, particularly because any response doesn't automatically include the original thread when it is forwarded on to the list and so content can seem irrelevant. And, of course, it doesn't work the other way (ie messages sent to the mailing list by subscribers don't appear on the message board, although the archives of the list can be searched). The author of the second message (about the Spittles) might not be a member of this list and so might not see your inquiry about what this has to do with Elliotts - as the automatic note in the e-mail advises, this was 'gatewayed' from a response on the Elliott message board. The connection - I checked the message boards - is that a George Alexander Spittle appeared in the original message (also gatewayed to the list) as married to an Elliott and was one of the surnames that the original poster about William Elliott had identified as a name of interest. Hopefully, then, these two 'posters' have made a connection that might even bring down a brick wall or two for them. Ohio in the household of George and Pheobe Emmerson. Ellen was a domestic servant. In the 1880 census, Annie was in her husbands home in Wood Co. Ohio. Her mother was also in the home. I have always assumed that Ellen was married about 1860? and her husband possibly died in the war?? Or possibly Ellen was an Elliott by birth and had Annie with out being married?? Any suggestions? The connection - I checked the message boards - is that a George Alexander Spittle appeared in the original message (also gatewayed to the list) as married to an Elliott and was one of the surnames that the original poster about William Elliott had identified as a name of interest. Hopefully, then, these two 'posters' have made a connection that might even bring down a brick wall or two for them. I have searched Ancestry.com and have had no luck. I have searched the message boards. I have requested info from the probate court in the county that she lived in and so far I have not found anything new. I even checked on every girl in Guernsey co. that was the right age in 1860 to have been married. There were alot of them, but I still have no idea what her maiden name could have been or who the Male Elliott was. I could really use some help, I am ready to give up. Here is the info that I have: Annie or Anna Elliott born about 1861 presumed in Guernsey county Ohio. In the 1870 census, Annie(9) and her mother Ellen(25) were living in Millwood twp, Guernsey co. Does anyone know of a trustworthy and efficient research genealogist in Ohio who I could get in contact with? I am in California and it is hard to do this from home. Help please.
