    1. [ELKINGTON] A terrible muddle - your help needed.
    2. Hi All, Could you please look through your trees and see if you have Charles Elkington. He was born in 1821 in Northamptonshire. In 1841 he is a schoolteacher in All Saints Parish, Northants. He is the son of William Elkington a school teacher and Ann Barrs. By 1851 he is living in Birmingham and his wife is Emily Mary ?. He states that he is living in his father-in-law's house. But who is his father-in-law??? George is now a High Bailiff in the Birmingham Court. This George is noted as being born in Northampton in the same year now living in Birmingham. I have looked for his marriage but I can't find it. Looking through later censuses it is even more confusing. between 1851 and 1871 he has different children living with him, all described as son or daughter. It is the same Charles and still High Court Bailiff in Birmingham. His wife 'Emily M' described in 1851 and 1861 seems to have died in the same month that Samuel was born in [Sep.Qtr 1861] so possibly due to childbirth. His daughters Emily M.1850 and Lucy 1852 seem to be living with Dr. Francis Elkington in 1861 who describes them as granddaughters whilst Leigh H. is being tutored away from home. This could possibly be explained that father had an important job and needed care for the young ones. By the birth of Samuel Sep. 1861 they were living at Dale Street, Leamington Priors and he was still High Sherriff. By 1871 his wife was dead and the children still remaining at home were with him and described as his children. Now His brother George is living with him. I'm sorry if this is long and complicated but I hope someone can help. Regards JUDY ELKINGTON www.elkingtonfamily.com
