Library and Archives Canada may have directories for Brockville (I need to check on that) which might give you some details. However, I haven't been down to the Archives for awhile and not sure of my next visit - we are managing to get very busy again. I will see if it is possible to do so and get back to you. Unless he came in 1865 or after (or via the United States which was my ancestors usual route before 1865) British subjects could come to Canada without any necessity of registering anywhere - it was like moving from county to county except one crossed the ocean! I shall think about other possible records that might list him and are available at the Archives of Ontario as we will be there in May.
