Hi, Can anyone send me any information on Charles Henry [Harry] Elkington b. 1916. He was in the Royal Navy in the 1939-1945 War and married in 1942 to a Barbara Thomas at St, Mary Abbots, Kensington. They moved to California in 1954, I would like to find the birth of Barbara Thomas and to know if they had any children probably in America. Many Thanks, Regards, JUDY ELKINGTON www.elkingtonfamily.com
Thanks for your response, Judy. I tried to mail to your aol and hotmail addresses but both were returned (failed). So am now using the reply option which probably means it is not off list. Do you have any Elkington doctors practising in the East End about 1862? It is admittedly possible that my grandfather could have been named after one but I think it more likely that he was named after his biological father. George Older, his mother's husband, died seven years before he was born. The two Elkington Olders you mention were my grandfather, Charles, and his first son, also Charles, who died in infancy. There was also a George Elkington Older, his second son, who lost his life in WW1. There is also me, christened Alan Elkington (the Alan being after Sir Alan Cobham, a famous flyer in 1930). While I am quite proud of the name Older (it enables me to say that I have always been older!), it is evident that I cannot have Older genes or DNA as there are no other Olders in our trees but George who managed to fall off a boat in the Thames soon after he married my great grandmother. I feel that, if I could find a descendant of a likely East End Elkington, it might be possible to conclude the matter finally with a DNA comparison. What do you think? I shall have to leave this for a week or two now but will come back to it later. Would be interested in your reaction to this note. with best wishes, Alan
