I have a reply for the William George Eldridge from Sussex England. My ggreatgrandfather David William Eldridge was born in Sussex England on August 11, 1876 and came to Wisconsin later. His father's name was David Eldridge who was born on September 9, 1854 in Sussex England. His father's name was John Eldridge from Sussex also. The names sound familiar to your post, just wandering if there might be a relation a couple of generations up the tree. One of my ggreatgrandfather's brothers names was Albert George Eldridge. My family had a great tendency like others to name their children after relatives. I hope this might help. I can no longer keep quiet -- this is too peculiar. For years I have been looking for information on my 3rd great grandfather - George Albert Eldridge, born 1854 in Vermont - and his father George William Eldridge. The story goes that Geo. Wm. married Orpha Jane Prentiss and died just before baby geo. Albert was born. Or, if you choose story #2, Geo. Wm. never married Orpha Jane and ran off to the Calif. gold fields. Someone in the family thought Geo. Wm. was a doctor, but that is unproven as is nearly everything else about these people, other than that Geo. Albert ended up in Wisconsin. Any knowledge of my Eldridges? Thanks!
