RESEARCH NOTES ON THE IMMIGRANT - JONATHAN ELDRIDGE Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 06:04:43 EDT From: <CAENH@aol.com> To: ELDRIDGE-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <5f493088.248cf33b@aol.com> Subject: Re: [ELDRIDGE-L] Isaac, Luther, Enos, George, and Claud Eldridge Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Candy- I have Enos Eldridge and wife Sarah from: 1850 Census Salem Township last pa. 27 line 5 Enos 51 b. PA Sarah 49 b. England only Eldridge family in town Not sure but one of their children in this census is listed as "Ger." could be George b. 1833 in PA. Children: David 1827 PA, Griffith 1831 PA, Ger. 1833 PA., Joseph 1835 OH, Benjamin 1837 Oh, Lucy W. 1839 OH, Alfred 1841 OH, Caroline 1843 OH, Amos 1846 OH. Enos lived near or in part of Philadelphia listed as Northern Liberties in census. He moved his family to Salem, OH abt 1833. In Salem he served as mayor for a short time--less than a year. He is listed in the census as a currier. Died: Sun 7 May 1871. Salem Republican 1857 - 1877 Obit died of cancer of the face at his residence on Main St. Salem, aged 74 one of oldest citizens. Hope this is some help to you. I sure would like to know someone else who is researching this family, as I have been having a tough time of it. As best I can tell this Enos is the son of Enos b. 6 Nov 1764 in NJ to William Eldridge and Deborah Malander. My husband is the gr grandson of David and thus Enos would be his gr gr grandfather. Such is not the case with my Eldridge family. They moved from NJ> PA> OH>TN>VA>DC>MA. My husband'sfather was left an orphan at the age of 7 and his grandfather died when his father was only 12. My Eldridge line is semi in the ditch with David Eldridge b. 1827 in PA; family moved to Salem, OH in 1833; m. Elizabeth Bridges abt 1850, but I can't find a marriage record in OH, PA, or NJ. Nor can I find a birth record to prove his parents were Enos Eldridge and wife Sarah. Enos did not leave a will when he died, but a sum of money was paid to David Eldridge when his estate was settled. David Eldridge was a carriage maker in Salem and Mt. Pleasant, OH. He later moved to Knoxville, TN where he died in 1878 at the age of 51. I am also searching for the families of William (1) and Deborah Malander. I know almost nothing of this William. I have included all collateral lines in this family, hoping to make a connection with someone who can help me. The underlined persons are my direct line.
