JOHN ELDRID or JOHN ELDRED S42705, CT Line, see JOHN ELDRED CONNECTICUT JONATHAN ELDRIDGE (1752-1840) Jonathan Eldridge enlisted, 1775, in Capt. Abel Spicer's company, 6th Connecticut regiment, under Col., Samuel Holden Parsons which served in the Boston camps, and, 1776, was in Captain Gallop's company for the defense of New York. He was born in Groton, died in Bridport, Vt., m. Mary Chaplin. JOHN ELDRED 2/8/1754- m. Hulda Manchester. John enlisted in the Rev War at Scituate in 1775, and served in Captain Ely's Company (Conn.), Colonel Parson's Regiment, and later, Colonel Tyler's Regiment. He was discharged from the Army on September 21, 1780 (Pension Certificate S-42705-PA#15455, effective 18 April 1818). GEORGIA JOHN ELDRIDGE Georgia Soldier's name used by Leonard Marbury to acquire land. However, it is to be noted that Leonard Marbury was caught "doing a whole lot of fibbing." Rhode Island troops. He was born Exeter, R.I.; died in Groton, N.Y., m. Hulda Austin. JOHN ELDRED 3/5/1742-bef 1807 m. Sarah West. Served in the Rev War as a private in Captain John Carr's Company, Colonel Archibald Crary's Regiment, from December 1, 1777 to Marcy 16, 1778, as a second corporal from June 16 to July 15, 1778, and as a first corporal from July 16, 1778 to January 16, 1779. M. S. Rose, burned part of Conanicut. In retaliation, Captain Eldred planted a gun between two rocks on the highland near his house overlooking the the water and fired on the british who lay off shore; he apparently harassed them on a number of occasions, much to their irritation, but they never caught him. A marker has been placed on his gravesite by the John Eldred Chapter DAR that reads "Revolutionary Soldier, John Eldred, 1775-1783."
