In his will, dated 12 December 1751, proved 23 November 1754, Elisha 3 signed himself "Elisha Eldredge." This spelling of the name has been adhered to by most of his descendants. Elisha was porobably married in Truro, and his son Mulford was born there, but by 1715, he was again living in Eastham, MA. About 1741, he removed to Mansfield, CT. Owing to church troubles at Billingsgate (Eastham) he and his children were baptised at Truto, in 1727, where he was on the records as Elisha Eldredge, Jr. of Eastham. His wife, Dorcas, was dead in 1756 when the estate was distributed. Children, surname ELDREDGE: 70 i. Mulford, born 22 January 1713. 71 ii. Jessee, born 9 August 1715 72 iii. He lived in the south part of Harwich for a time, afterward locating in that part of Eastham which became Wellfleet, MA. Although Elisha, Jr. is the only one proven as his son, it is fair to presume that the others who lived in the same locality were his children. Children, surname ELDRED: 17 i. Elisha, born c 1690. WILLIAM ELDRED, THE IMMIGRANT 1. WILLIAM 1 ELDRED was born c1618, possibly in Winfarthing (3 miles from New Buckenham), Norfolk County, England, the son of Robert and Anne (Garnham) Eldred. William arrived in Old Yarmouth, MA c 1642 and married Anne Lumpkin some time during the period of 1645-1647. She ws the daughter of William and Tamesin Lumpkin of Norwich, Norfolk County, having come over to New England with her parents in 1637. Her father was one of the original settlers of Yarmouth and occupied many positions of responsibility. William Eldred died in November 1679; Anne was buried on 1 November 1676. Their graves have not been located and it is quite possible that the grave markers are no longer in existence. Many of the descendants of William became prominent and influential in the affairs of the Town of Yarmouth. There are not many records cooncerning Willliam Eldred that remain today. He was in Yarmouth in March 1645 and 1647. Willliam and his wife Anne settled on the farm near Anne's father adjoining the farm of Thomas Howes. There house was near a brook, later called "Eldred's Brook" in what is now Dennis, near Nobscussett. During the years 1657, 1662, 1674, 1675, and 1677, William was Constable and Highway Surveyor. In March 1668/1669 William sold land inYarmouth to Joseph Hall. In 1676 William paid approximately three pounds tax for King Philip's War. Ther is no record of William after 1679 and it can be believed that he died about that time. There is no real proof that the last six children belonged to William and Anne Eldred. It is believed that these children did belong to them and therefore are listed as probable children. Children of William and Anne (Lumpkin) Eldred, all born at Yarmouth: 2 i. Anne, born 16 December 1648. 3 ii. Sarah, born 10 October 1650. 4 iii. Elisha, born 1653, died 14 October 1739. 5 iv.
