If in 1840 George William Eldridge was 15, I wonder who the above G.W. is on the census. Married 23 Apr 1741, Mary Starr (born 30 Aug 1722, New London, died 19 May 1779, Groton, age 57) daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Morgan) Starr. Mary was the fifth generation in a direct line from Elder Brewster of the Mayflower. The will of Charles Eldridge was dated 16 March 1791, and proved 31 Aug 1795. Included among the equests is, "In consideration of the good services to me done by Samuel Holdredge and his wife, Abigail, the use and improvement of the farm I bought of Stephen Stoddard, during their natural lives; after their death, the farm is to go to my granddaughter, Lucy Eldredge, daughter of my son, Daniel, dec'd. Charles lived sixteen years after the death of his wife - perhaps the Holdredges took care of him and his farm. Samuel and Abigail Holdredge lived to enjoy the use of the farm for many years.
