Hi Jerri, In your search for the parents of Elisha Eldridge who married Mary Wheadon here is the information on the line of Jehosphat Eldred with son Elisha that you requested. However, since I have other information that references that he is the son of Mulford Eldredge, I will send that also. You can now see where I am confused. Let me know if you see a connection that we can research further. Donna Source: William Eldred of Yarmouth, Massachusetts" by Nelson Eldred Pages 122-124 350 ELISHA 5 ELDRED (Jehosophat 4, Jehosophat 3, Samuel 2, William 1) born 1 August 1756, Kent, CT; died 16 October 1825, Detroit, MI married Naamah Owen, born 28 october 1760 Hebron, CT, died 22 December 1828, Hartwick Seminary, NY, daughter of Joel 5 (Noah 4, Josiah 3, Josiah 2, John 1) and Anne (Buell) Owen. He removed to Hartwick Seminary, just south of Cooperstown, NY, probably about 1800, as he bought land there from William Cooper, 5 June 1801. (Original deed in possession John Elisha Eldred, Jun. of Milwaukee, WI, in 1930.) On 25 August 1786, he bought land (40 acres in the Town of Warren, Litchfield Co., CT, from John Bliss for 318 sterling (english pounds). Naamah Owen's grand-father's name was Samuel Buell; he was of Hebron, CT. Her grand-mother's maiden name was Anne Wright. She kept a journl from which the following extracts are quoted by "S.E.E." 6 March 1821: "This day my oldest son, Parnach, is (if living) 34 years old. I have not heard from him for more than nine years, and know not where he is." Again she writes: "My husband died 16 October 1825 and was buried on the 7th instant; funeral sermon preached by Rev. Mr. Cadle from Psalm 91, verse 1-2." On March 6, 1821, after mentioning her son's absence, she writes, "Afflictive Providence, Oh, that I may be submissive to the will of my Heavenly Father! He does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men. I have no cause to complain." "S.E.E." says in her notes that all were born in Hartwick Seminary, that is hard to reconcile with the land purchases cited above. Also John Elisha Eldred told me --CHE-- that he heard both his father and his Aunt Sarah Eliza say that his grandfather was "bound out" at a very tender age to people who eventually moved to New York and took him with them. This would indicate birth in Connecticut. Children of Elisha and Naamah (Owen) Eldred: 619 i. Parnach, born 6 March 1787, died 18ll/12 at New Orleans from yellow fever; unmarried. "S.E.E." says, "Parnach Eldred went to New Orleans in 1811. He was taken with yellow fever. When able to sit up in bed, he wrote his parent, ad, never hearing from him again, it was supposed that he suffered a relapse and died, among strangers. Everything possible was done to hear from him, but of no avail." 620 ii. WILLIAM 1 ELDRED was born c1618, possibly in Winfarthing (3 miles from New Buckenham), Norfolk County, England, the son of Robert and Anne (Garnham) Eldred. William arrived in Old Yarmouth, MA c 1642 and married Anne Lumpkin some time during the period of 1645-1647. She ws the daughter of William and Tamesin Lumpkin of Norwich, Norfolk County, having come over to New England with her parents in 1637. Her father was one of the original settlers of Yarmouth and occupied many positions of responsibility. William Eldred died in November 1679; Anne was buried on 1 November 1676. Their graves have not been located and it is quite possible that the grave markers are no longer in existence. Many of the descendants of William became prominent and influential in the affairs of the Town of Yarmouth. There are not many records cooncerning Willliam Eldred that remain today. He was in Yarmouth in March 1645 and 1647. Willliam and his wife Anne settled on the farm near Anne's father adjoining the farm of Thomas Howes. There house was near a brook, later called "Eldred's Brook" in what is now Dennis, near Nobscussett. During the years 1657, 1662, 1674, 1675, and 1677, William was Constable and Highway Surveyor. In March 1668/1669 William sold land inYarmouth to Joseph Hall. In 1676 William paid approximately three pounds tax for King Philip's War. Ther is no record of William after 1679 and it can be believed that he died about that time. There is no real proof that the last six children belonged to William and Anne Eldred. It is believed that these children did belong to them and therefore are listed as probable children. Children of William and Anne (Lumpkin) Eldred, all born at Yarmouth: 2 i. Anne, born 16 December 1648. 3 ii. Sarah, born 10 October 1650. 4 iii. Elisha, born 1653, died 14 October 1739. 5 iv.
