This is what I have been saying for several years. Nelson could NOT find the data he wanted so he misinterpreted what he did find just to make it fit. He really was getting quite old and was very ill. Perhaps just errors in conception. Thanks so very much on giving us your rendition of the facts as known. merle W. Hi Merle, You got that right! In Nelson's "Robert Eldred Book" he has my Eldridge line down to my great grand father, Oliver Eldridge. What is hard to understand is why there are so many errors when the correct information (VRs) was readily available in the Harwich/Sandwich Town Records Nelson better not meet my Grdma, Brigit Eldridge, in the great beyond. Say's in his book that she has "no issue." Since Brigit had nine children, duly recorded in the Harwich VRs, I don't think she would take kindly to that statement. (g) I was suspicious of "the book" but finally purchased it through genealogy "peer pressure." Looks like he took his Robert/William "discards" from his "Samuel" research and hired Ms Costello ( I should know her) to try and invent a Cape Robert/William link and enhanced (?) descendancy. Btw, I missed a rather obvious record regarding my Robert1. I assumed he was illiterate since my Reuben4 signed his will with an "x'' Just recently reread entry in Plymouth Court Records where Robert1 was paid a fee for "writing the testimony for---" (snip) while he was Constable. Makes me think he may have had schooling in England. He was a servant to Gov. Prence and from what I have read, it does not seem that the Governor was the type that would take time to educate his servants. Have you got involved in the literacy question in your research?
