    1. Fwd: miscellanous arledge information
    2. Clay, I think we might have found some missing links.I saw the Aldridge part in a message and there had to be a connect some where. Have you found this yet for your line?? Hope so. Catch ya later, have a good day. Delores aka Dee --------------------- Forwarded message: From: [email protected] Resent-from: [email protected] To: [email protected] Date: 97-05-28 00:26:46 EDT Hope you get this.Be a little patient, I have a lot of programs I have stored.I will find the correct one in time. Dee --------------------- Forwarded message: From: [email protected] (AMcGowan) Sender: [email protected] To: [email protected] Date: 97-05-23 02:15:09 EDT Over the years, I have collected a lot of misc. info about the Arledges. I have in my possession a copy of a Confederate pension of one John Arledge in Callahan Co., TX. He was a member of Company C, 7th Texas Cavalry, C.S.A. His daughter was Emma Arledge Huckabee, born 1868. Anyone's line? I, too, have the will of John Arledge Edgefield District as well as a will of Isaac Arledge Senr. of Fairfield Co., the 1st census which we all seem to have. Pam, I have Moses D. Arledge born in Alabama on the 1850 census in Milam Co. I suspect he is kin (maybe a brother to my John Hugh), but I can't seem to find anymore about him except from the Texas Archives: Arledge,M.D., Pvt/McCulloch, R. Capt. Co. for Milam Co., 27th Brig., Gen.E.S.C. Robertson commdg.,TM June 1961. I have a handwritten census acct on a computer file index (don't remember where it came from; looks like L.D.S.) with Isaac Morgan Arledge b.0219 1910 in Falls?/Under that: Reual(?) Young Arledge 0820 1908 Grayson, and Texana Arledge 0119 1869 in Williamson, Georgetown. An interesting letter I have written by my great aunt Alberta Arledge Harris says:"Pa's peopl had slaves, seemed to me they lived in Miss. so did Ma's & she never did hav to work so she never did learn much & at that early age what could she do?.. Aunt Emma said they buried money some where, I guess she ment in Miss. if they lived there. Said when they were on the run they would hide the money in the hearth or old chimney so if they went back they could find it." I have a handwritten note from my grandmother that lists the following in Mississippi: ?Arledge Ike Moses another one two or three brothers came to Texas in 1829 fought Indians for six years, one was killed; the other two fought in the war of 1836, one more was killed; Moses Arledge was in the siege of the Alamo. (this was all hearsay; I've never found an Arledge in the list of Alamo heroes) In a book of Fannin county, there is an article about William and Joe Arledge (brothers) who left Alabama in 1852 to homestead in Texas. The community of Arledge Ridge (redundant?) became a thriving community. The Arledge Ridge cemetary is all that is left of the community except for the school building which is used for a community club house. If anyone wants a copy of this article, let me know. I don't have a scanner or I would scan it (it has a photo of the brothers), but I will be glad to snail mail it to anyone of you. I have piles and piles of misc. stuff like this, but like most of you, I've had trouble making sense of it all and linking it all together. Maybe working together, we can do it. Charlene

    3. My Aldridges go back to my GGGfather, Samuel. (All these are ALDRIDGE, no other variations that I know of yet). Samuel was born in 1814 in Gloucester married Ann Veale (b 1819). He later mrried Eliza Jennings (b abt 1831 in Bristol) He died some time after the 1881 census, when he was 67, still in Gloucester. His children (with Ann V I believe) were: Sarah Augusta Veale Aldridge - my GGGmother) 1840 - 1927 George Aldridge b 1844 Ralph Aldridge b abt 1849, d after 1909 Albert Aldridge b 1851 Other Aldridge Information ====================== I have recently acquired a 'stray' entry of the burial of Mrs Ann Aldridge, widow at the church of St George the Martyr, Preston, Lancashire on 28th July 1770, aged 55. I also have these three original documents concerning Aldridges: 1) A Conveyance of a dwellinghouse and premises at Tredworth, Barton St Mary near Gloucester, dated 25th May 1862 from Mr Joseph Moss to Mr Samuel Aldridge. 2) A Mortgage of a dwellinghouse and premises at Tredworth, Barton St Mary near Gloucester, dated 25th May 1862 from Mr Samuel Aldridge to Mr Anthony Gilbert Jones for £98 plus interest. 3) A Conveyance of a dwellinghouse and premises at 3 Robins Wood Cottages, Cemetery Road near Gloucester, dated 18th November 1868 from Mr Samuel Aldridge and his mortgagee to Mr George J. Ling. A search of the UK Marriage witness index gives the following entry for Buckinghamshire: Format: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Witness's Names Date Parish Church Bridegroom's Names Town County Bride's Names GenSoc / membership No. Genealogist's Name and Address Entry: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas ALDRIDGE 11Apr1786 Parish Church Thomas WELLER Penn BKM Charlotte MORRIS LED 0034 Marion Holding, Box 460, Lakes Entrance, Victoria AUS Another matching pair of entries in Gloucestershire (two witnesses to one marriage) is: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Harriet BUTCHER 19Oct1837 Parish Church John BUTCHER Stroud GLS Eliza ALDRIDGE C.Thompson 10 Blackeven Clo, Roborough, Plymouth PL6 7AX -------------------------------------------------------------------- John ALDRIDGE 19Oct1837 Parish Church John BUTCHER Stroud GLS Eliza ALDRIDGE C.Thompson 10 Blackeven Clo, Roborough, Plymouth PL6 7AX -------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a copy of the 2% sample of the 1851 census, which I have searched for the name ALDRIDGE. There are quite a number of entries: Devon 2 James & Elizabeth Essex 6 Gloucester 5 Hampshire 1 William Kent 5 Nottinghamshire 1 Sarah Middlesex 10 Staffordshire 10 Surrey 2 Catharine, William Sussex 4 Warwickshire 12 Wiltshire 1 Thomas (prisoner!) Yorkshire East R 1 Mary For more details, e-mail me direct. Finally, I found William Aldridge serving on an English ship fitted out and paid for by the City of London at the time of the Spanish Armada. The ship was Thomas Bonaventure, 140 tons with a crew of 70. Thanks for your interest, and I hope some of this can help someone., Colin G. 1. Fwd: John Aldridge/Arledge
    2. There are many more. Dee --------------------- Forwarded message: From: [email protected] (Pam Wilson) Sender: [email protected] Reply-to: [email protected] To: [email protected] (Arledge list) Date: 97-05-22 11:59:28 EDT I think I may have just stumbled on a breakthrough for a link, but need the help of several of you. This is especially relevant to Marcelle, Joe and Charlene. Gosh, it's wonderful to have all these Aldridge/Arledge trees! The hard part is looking back and forth between Arledges and Aldridges with the same first name to see if they're the same person! I just happened to run across this possible link when looking up in my index. Marcelle, on your tree, you have a John Aldridge (born c. 1743) who is the son of Thomas (b 1720)and Mary Smith Aldridge of Beaufort, NC. This Thomas is the son of John and Elizabeth Aldridge of Northumberland, son of John and Dorothy Smith Aldridge, son of Clement and Elizabeth. I need to know as much as I can about *where you got the info* about this JOHN ALDRIDGE (C 1743-1817, married to Anna), and especially his date of death. You see, I've been trying to find the origins of the Edgefield Co, SC JOHN ALDRIDGE/ARLEDGE, also married to an Anna, whose WILL WAS WRITTEN in 1817 but recorded in 1821. I think these could possibly be the same person--which would solve one GREAT mystery about this branch of the SC Arledges. You see, my hunch is that this John Arledge (who names sons Burrel, John and Isaac in his will) is the ancestor of the Neshoba Co, MS Arledges (Elzey Joe's tree) and Charlene's Milam Co, Texas Arledges. Here are my notes from my tree about "Edgefield" John Arledge: Descendants of "Edgefield" John Arledge Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 ARLEDGE was born Bef 1760, and died 1821 in Edgefield Co, SC. He married ANNA ???. Notes Received a State Grant in 1791 for 155 acres on Turkey Creek in Edgefield County, Ninety-Six District, SC, which augmented several other land holdings he had previously acquired. Upon his death, his personal estate was valued at $2179, not including the value of his real estate. He and his wife had at least 3 sons and several daughters. Will in Edgefield Co, SC. dated 29 May 1817 (recorded 9-25-1821) It is not clear who this John's parents were. In the 1790 Edgefield County, SC census (96 District), listed as JOHN AULDRIDGE, with 2 males over 16, 3 males under 16 and 4 females. Thus, he must have had a larger family than the 3 sons listed in his will. The same census also lists an ABSOLOM ALDRIDGE (who is later found in Kershaw County). The 1800 Edgefield Co, SC census (96 District) lists JAMES ALDRIDGE and JOHN ALDRIDGE as living in the same district. JOHN had 2 males 10-16, one 16-26 and one over 45, and 2 females under 10, 1 10-16 and one over 45 and 4 slaves. JAMES was a younger family, with one male and female each 26-45 and one boy and 3 girls under age 10. Is this James the oldest son of John and Anna? It would make sense since he seems to have lost one older son between the 1790 and 1800 censuses. However, the 1800 census for Abbeville County section of 96 District lists a JOHN ALDRIDGE and a NATHANIEL ALDRIDGE (a Nathaniel was also listed in 1800 in Abbeville). The 1810 Edgefield County census has an interesting twist--it lists: ALDREDGE, JOHN Jr. 031 ARLDREDGE, JOHN Jr. 031 ARLDRIDGE, ISAAC 035 John and Isaac are two of the sons of John. Where is James? and why are both Johns listed as Junior? 1820 Edgefield County census lists JOHN ARLREDGE SR. (000100 11101) and ISAAC ALREDGE (11010 20110) and JOHN ALREDGE (310010 10010) The 1830 Edgefield census lists ANNA ALDRIDGE (widow of John, SR.) and ISAAC ALDRIDGE. Son Burrel is never mentioned except in his will. Could Burrel be the same as James? Children of John Arledge and Anna ??? are: i. BURREL2 ARLEDGE, b. Bef 1780. ii. JOHN ARLEDGE, b. Bef 1780. iii. ISAAC ARLEDGE, b. Bef 1780. iv. JAMES? ARLEDGE, b. Bef 1774. I think these sons are our best candidates for the Mississippi and Milam Co, TX Arledges. There is a possibility that this Isaac Arledge was the progenitor of the Neshoba County, Mississippi Arledge family, who reckon their descent from an Isaac Arledge. Charlene says her Milam Co Arledges are descended from a John Arledge of Edgefield Co, NC. According to Elzey Joe Arledge's trees, this ancestral Isaac Arledge was in SC, of English descent (born c 1765-1775, by my calculations) who had 4 children: Bruce, Betsy, Jack and Isaac D. Arledge. This next generation Isaac D. Arledge (born estim. 1790-1795) married English-born Rachel Harrison, and gave birth to Betsy, Nancy, Sallie, Mary and Isaac D. This *next* generation Isaac D. Arledge was born 7 Nov 1819 in SC and moved to Paulding, MS and then to Hattiesburg, where he died in 1910. He had 14 children, and his descendants are documented by Elzey Joe Arledge, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA (703-491-8280) or <[email protected]>. I think this is the most likely point of connection for the Mississippi branch, although the other unaccounted-for Isaac Arledge during the appropriate time period would be the Fairfield Isaac Arledge (son of Isaac, who was son of Isaac bc 1747 and Anna) who was born 1770-1785, married Lydia Hughes, and had children William, Isaac, John, Austin, James, Charlotte, Eliza and Lydia. However, these names do not connect at all to the children of Isaac listed by Elzey Joe Arledge. On the other hand, since the Edgefield Isaac was one of at least three children (Isaac, John and Burrell) of John Arledge, it seems more likely that he would name his children Jack (John), Elizabeth (Betsy), Bruce (could be some variant of Burrell?) and Isaac. Also, it is likely that the "Jno. Arledge" (b. 1794) on Elzey Joe's tree could be the same as "Jack" here, since both are forms of John, and the dates of birth would be approximately the same.

    3. I am looking for information on George William Eldridge, born about 1825 in VT. He may or may not have married Orpha Jane Prentiss/Hazen but they had a son, George Albert Eldridge in the early 1850s, supposedly in VT. George Wm. was supposed to have died either before his son was born or when he was a baby and Orpha Jane remarried to James Boyd. The Eldred, Eldredge, Eldridges in New England book says that George William was the son of Oliver Eldridge and gives a birth date of 1824, a death date of 1825(!), married to Orpha Jane (no date for marriage). It says that the vital records must be wrong concerning his death date, which is possible I suppose. If he really died in 1855, he would fit what the family has handed down for generations a little better. There is also a story that he didn't marry Orpha Jane and lit out for the gold fields of Calif. I would really like to untangle this mess so if anyone has any information verifying anything about George William Eldridge, I would much appreciate the help. Susan Budensiek

    3. I am trying to find the parents or siblings of my Obadiah ELDRIDGE and have been searching forever it seems, <Grin> for that particular missing link! Obadiah Eldridge MARRIED a Martha Reddin. It was a reference but, we have not been able to produce a marriage record. Obadiah appeared on the 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860 census in Calloway Co. KY. I believe that he was born in 1807. I had been led to believe probably in TN. because when he first appeared on the Calloway Co. KY census abt. 1830, it said b. TN. Any help is appreciated! I am at a total dead end with my g.g. grandfather Obadiah Eldridge. I have stacks of ELDRIDGE information but until I can make a connection with Obadiah and his parents and siblings I am stuck in history!!! The following is: information on my Eldridge Family. If you see anything that you could help me with I would appreciate any Help on the Eldridges! I have been at a stand still for months now on finding parents, siblings of Obadiah Eldridge! First the following info: 1830 Calloway Co. Census Eldridge, Obadiah 20001 00001 This reflects two male children under the age of 5 an a female 20-25 yrs. I have no idea who the two boys may have been my earliest children listed for Obadiah are Martha b.14 May 1834 & Mahala 1 Feb 1837 ALSO : Warren Eldridge appears on the 1840 Calloway Co. Full Census as follows: 1840 Calloway Co. Full Census Eldridge, Obadiah 111001 110001 Warren 00001 0001 In the case of Obadiah Eldridge, for example, it shows that he had one male age 0-5, (L. H. "Lack") 1 aged 5-10, (?????) 1 age 10-15 (??????) and one age 30-40 (Obadiah). For females, he had 1 age 0-5 (Mahala ), 1 age 5-10 (Martha Eveline) , and one age 30-40(wife). Yet, it did show a Warren Eldridge, with 1 male age 20-30 and one female age 15-20. Perhaps a younger brother of Obadiah? Perhaps, the two sons of Obadiah died by 1850, however 10-15would have been 20-25 in 1850 and other 15-20 so could have been in there own households. The 1840 census is shows Obadiah with ?son between 10 and 15 yrs, yet no son of that age is in the 1850 census. A couple of things are strange, also the 1830 census showed Obadiah with two male children under the age of five?? Census taker could have mess up or child 10-15 1840 was five in 1830 which is possible Obadiah's age 23 but not probable. Perhaps, Obadiah's father was in Calloway and these two are younger brothers. If so, have found no earlier Eldridge than Obadiah in Co. Records. 1850 Calloway Co. Census Eldridge, Obadiah 43, Elizabeth (Winchester/McCuiston) 38 yrs., Martha E.16, L.H. 13 (m), William R. 10, O. H. 9 (m), then A.P. 5 (m), Margaret E. e, Rachel A. 1 This is just in case you didn't have the Calloway Co. census right at your finger tips..... <grin> now tell me what you think and what if anything you might have known about a Warren Eldridge??? I need a wiser mind than mine... Search records for Warren and where he hailed from possible brother to Obadiah sound good, go for it. 3. Seeking information on the family and origins of Abigail ELDRED b.a. 1708 in RI m. 30 Jun 1726 in South Kingstown, Kings (later Washington) Co. RI to Henry GARDNER or GARDINER (1704-1791). They had at least two children: Hannah b. 1729 m. Jeffrey WATSON, and Mary b. 1732 m. Daniel SHAW of Stonington, New London Co. CT. Abigail appears to have d. between 1732 and 1736, for Henry GARDNER m. (2) Anna CHAMPLAIN on 27 Jun 1736. I believe Abigail to be the daughter of Samuel ELDRED (c.1678-Feb 1717/18) of Kingstown RI, who m.a. 1705 to Abigail NORTHRUP (c.1685-aft.1722), and the granddaughter of Thomas ELDRED (1648-1726) and his wife Susanna COLE. So, the web site is, Arledge/ Aldridge. and several varient spellings. We have the coat of Arms and go back to 927, I believe this is the correct date. Join us if you like. Clay Fulcher is our list owner. Four of us got our heads to-gether and have come up with a real winner. [email protected] Delores aka Dee
