RE: Edward Elam, c. 1730-1810, being born in England. Do you have documentary proof. Many have said that he was born in England, but thus far I have seen no evidence to that effect. Circumstances indicate that he was closely connected to William and Joel Elam of Charlotte and Meckenburg counties. Many believe that they were brothers. No one has come up with credible documentary evidence indicating their parents or their origin. I tentatively follow the theory that they were born in Chesterfield Co. VA, DAR says Edwar 1730, William 1734, and Joel 1736. It seems there alway was a fourth brother, Alexander who died in 1789. Thanks for any enlightenment you may be able to give.
