Hi all-- I just received a message on Y2K compliance, how to check your system, and how to correct it. I just followed the instructions below and discovered my Windows 95 was NOT compliant, having only a 2 digit year. A friend checked her Windows 98 and found the same thing! (Aren't you glad Big Brother Bill is watching out for us?) I urge every one of you to follow the instructions below and make corrections if necessary. Please don't assume anything. I was under the impression that systems after Windows 95 were Y2K compliant. Obviously not true!! Cassie, Windows 98 users can click on the Windows update icon in the Start menu and microsoft will check the system on line and download and install any upgrades needed for Y2k or any other parts of Windows 98. It is possible for windows 98 to be Y2K compliant but some of the microsoft software not to be. This will check that also. -- Bob George Surprise, Arizona http://www.doitnow.com/~moravia/index.html The Crooked Tree's Census On Line & The Taulbee Pages George, Taulbee, Brady, Bailey, Dressback
Ma always told me to keep it simple stupid. That goes double with this internet connectivity. Just stiring the pot. You always do a good job. Keep it up!! Hello all -- As you all know I threw a major temper tantrum when Geocities and Yahoo merged and came out with that hideous clause in their Terms of Service contract that says they can do anything with the information contained on any site hosted by them. It turns out that after I went to all that trouble to move everything over to Tripod, with whom I had placed the "photographs" section of my page a year or two ago, I went in and looked at their Terms of Service and they have changed it to use the EXACT SAME language as GeoCities/Yahoo! I was so angry that I decided to check out Xoom.com and found that they also use the very same clause. So, it looks like short of paying someone to host the site (which I have looked into and is prohibitively expensive), there's really no alternative but to pick my favorite devil. I'm going to keep the page at both sites, but in the future I may change the links on the main page at Tripod to point to the GeoCities site just because the GeoCities File Manager is so much more user-friendly than that of Tripod. Now that I've probably hopelessly confused you, just remember that you can get to the site by going to either address: http://www.geocities.com/heartland/prairie/6831 or http://members.tripod.com/cellinismom/index.html Cassie
Cassie, I don't know what prices you have been quoted. I get my site free (5 megs) with my internet service which costs $20/month. I understand AT&T gives a free 10 megs with service. I am webmaster of a commercial site that is located in Kansas and I think their ISP is even cheaper. Obviously free is a good deal but they are now "charging" by taking possesion of other people's property. If you are willing to pay, give me a figure and I will check with the Kansas ISP. Thanks to everyone who responded to,"What Language Is This?" I really appreciate it, as I did not have a clue. Diane
Due to the Draconian policies set forth by the new GeoCities/Yahoo (or as I now refer to them, Nazis R Us) merger, I am moving my webpage to Tripod. Not everything is there yet, but should be by tomorrow. The new address for the main page will be http://members.tripod.com/cellinismom/index.html Please let any family members who may not subscribe to the list know. I will post the new address and a link on the old webpage for those who still don't get the message. Please change your bookmarks. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but according to Nazi R Us' new Terms of Service, in order to publish anything on the web through them you have to sign an agreement that says you are licensing the content of your webpage to them, meaning that they can steal your information and use it for any purpose they choose, including selling it. I think not. Cassie
For anyone interested, there is a new 4.0 PAF that has just been released. You can download it directly from the LDS church website at www.familysearch.org by going to the "What's New" section. It takes about 20 minutes or so to download, so be patient. The new release is in Windows 95/98 format and is VERY similar to Ancestral Quest. Cassie
I base the statement that the webpage is in Swedish on the fact that the domain name ends in ".se" (http://www.hedbergska.sundsvall.se/amnen/fs/wwwboard/messages/2299.html) This is the international abbreviation for a website based in Sweden.
Cassie About 20 or so years ago I read about one Lars Elam in Sweden - Stockholm' I believe - in the newspaper. The story was that Lars was in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. The ambulance driver was stricken by a heart attack, where-upon Lars placed him in the back and drove the both of them to the hospital. Sounds like one of "our" Elams to me. There are indeed Elams scattered about the globe. One of the most interesting "sightings" was in a certain mountainous region of Iran. Oddly enough many inhabitants of the region appear somewhat Caucasiod with rather light complexions and even occasionally red hair. I have surmised for years as to whether this might any derivation from the ancient, Biblical land of Elam, which occupied part of modern day Iraq and Iran. Happy hunting..............Roger Elam >From: Cassie Elam <celam@pdq.net> >Reply-To: ELAM-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com >To: ELAM-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [ELAM-ROOTS-L] WHAT LANGUAGE IS THIS? >Date: Sat, 03 Jul 1999 08:47:26 -0500 > >It's Swedish, but I don't know what it says. It's Swedish, but I don't know what it says. I know that there are some Elams in Sweden. I don't know how they fit in with us -- or if they even do. There are several Elam Burials at these two sites. I hope this helps someone. Diane http://c-23.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/nc/cleveland/cemeteries/nbethel.t xt http://c-23.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/nc/montgomery/cemeteries/laurelhi .txt
Herman asked: "Cassie do you want all Elam's or what about the ones with Mothers that were Elams so our names are different?" I want all Elam descendants, regardless of what their last names are. Thanks for bringing this up. Cassie

Lolene I am researching Bakers in Clark and Jasper Co, MS. I am trying to follow up on the Jim Oscar Baker or J. O. Baker m. Mary Jane Craft that came there around the 1870-90 time frame. Their daughter Fannie Elizabeth Jane Baker married my wife's great-grandfather Charlie Dudley Brashier in Clarke Co., MS in 1891. There is probably some Kentucky or Missouri birth location or time, but I haven't gotten hold of the relationship yet. Suffering from too many ancestors and too little time, just like most of us. Diane, I'm no expert, but my guess is that the web address is in Swedish or at least some other Scandinavian language. Good luck! Rene NPVA3124@aol.com
