Johann Mathias Egner arrived in Philadelphia on September 30, 1727 on the Molly, the third Palatine German ship. Mathias Egner has been pretty well researched, but there is more to be done. His line stayed mostly in eastern (Berks, Lehigh, Northampton area) PA. Though I do think--no proof--that it is his son Jacob that shows in Rowan NC records as early as 1753 (about the same time as the Aegender/Agner line). Jacob is usually attributed to being Johannes Aegender's son. There are some of Mathias' grandsons and great grandsons we never could find, and I think they may have started the Cecil County, MD line and the Richland/Ashland Co, Ohio lines. The one grandson that went to western PA looks to have never had children. Often, Ludwig Aegender is attributed to being Mathias' son (published in many PA books); this is simply not accurate. Because Ludwig stayed in the Northampton area after his father and siblings went to Rowan and is mentioned in a church that one of Mathias' sons used briefly, researchers assumed he was another son of Mathias, as there was no other family around using a similar name. However, Mathias' will, found this summer by Carol who is on this list, lists his children, including two deceased daughters. So now you all can see where some of the confusion began.....we have an Aegender attributed to being an Egner and possibly an Egner attributed to being an Aegender! Carol, Patsy, and I are no longer researching this family as we no longer think our line comes from his. Ours is a case of an Agner name getting changed to Egnor when they moved to a different area. Now if we could just find that one little document that proves all of our circumstantial evidence............... --Celia Hartmann :o)
