Several years ago, while my Mother was still alive I did some work on our family tree. Your message read as follows: George McDowell Agner (James5, George 4, John3, Ludwig2, Johannes1), born 9 October 1853 died 1924 On 24 October 1877, he was wed to Louella Sheltman, daughter of Peachy and Mary L. (Hutcheson) Sheltman, E. L. Kregloe officiated. Louella was born 1852, died 1931. George worked as a laborer, a barkeeper, and a farmer over the years. Their children were: i. Edward Calvin Agner, married Reona Conner. ii. James Ira Agner, married L. V. Conner. iii. Harry Bruce Agner, married Nancy Virginia Morris. iv. Earl P. Agner. v. William McDowell Agner, married Willie Estell Bryant. vi. Russell Stuart Agner, married Nettie Lorena Taylor. vii. Mary Susan Agner, married Charles Brawley Agnor. viii. Nettie P. Agner. ix. Annie L. Agner. x. Thomas E. Agner. xi. Robert Reid Agner. I agree with your list except all spelled their names Agnor. Harry Bruce Agnor was my Grandfather and I am sure of the spelling of his name. I believe that George McDowell also spelled his name Agnor but I cannot be sure of that. I believe that I found George's grave in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. He was also recorded in the 1910 Census for Kerrs Creek District showing age 56, married 1 time, 32 years old, carpenter. The spelling there was Agnor. I think that George's father was James Agnor, Jr., his father was James Agner. My incomplete record show that between James and James, Jr., spelling went from Agner to Agnor. If you talk to people in Rockbridge Co. they still say 'egg ner'. Much of my information came from the memory of my Mother, Leta Beatrice Hickman Agnor. She insisted that George's wife spelled her name Lieuelah Sheltman. The only spouse that I have which you do not have is Annie L Agnor was married to Lewis Nicely.
