Betty Ralph gave me additional information..margie hartman Glad I was able to provide some clues on your Catherine Moser. Please take my data with plenty of salt - it is the best I know right now, but am constantly learning. Am pasting below some misc. text I have collected on Rough and Smithers. Betty Ralph Huntsville, AL John Rough: At the time of his father's death, John was bound to Christian Crider to learn the tanning trade. The family may have been German. On 12 August 1786 John was appointed guardian of his brother Phillip. He sued the executors of his father's estate over a land trade. He evidentially lost and appealed the verdict, saying the jurors had prejudged the case. The court found in his favor on 13 June 1787. He was listed in the Rowan county, North Carolina census in 1790, 1800, and 1820. Sources: Jean Lydigsen Rowan County Guardian Bonds Rough file, Rowan County Public library William Smithers Sr.: He was married to Maria Catharina JEAKY on 5 Aug 1734 in Burlington, New Jersey.
