Agner be the ones > from Rockcastle,Va., and since the census info. say Jacob Agner's parents > were born in PA., does that line connect to any of these others I'm reading > about in PA.? Was there a marriage license from Jacob and Mary A. inVA. Kathy, Jacob Agner Jr. (Jacob4, John3, Ludwig2, Johannes1) and Mary "Polly" Day were married 21 January 1838 by Rev. William M. Cunningham. The original marriage bond can be found in Rockbridge County. The marriage is also listed on page 235 of the RB Marriage Register #1. It says that Mary Day was the daughter of Thomas Day who was deceased. The bond was signed by the bondsmen: Jacob Agner Jr. (groom, he made an X mark), Andrew Agner (signature), and David Agner (he made an X mark). Not sure why census would say parents born in PA. The 1850 census of Rockbridge County shows Jacob Sr. as age 64 and a cooper. He had property value of $600 and he was born in MD. His wife Elizabeth was age 63 (btw, maiden name unknown). For some reason their granddaughter Mary (Jacob Jr & Mary's daughter) was living with them at time of census. (their other children were living with the parents). So, no there is no connection between the PA Egners and the VA Agners. Though the Agners/Aegenders did start out in PA where they lived for a decade or two after they came to America. Then one son (Henry) went to Rowan Co. NC and one son (Ludwig) went to MD. It is Ludwig's line that moved onto to VA and we think to Ohio. Does this help at all? It IS confusing because some of the Agners got changed to Egnor, and also because of lack of documentation ilable. --Celia Hartmann :o)
