I'm astounded at how well Celia keeps everything organized, as I am totally confused. Here I was thinking there were only a few of us "Egnors" around. I'm glad everyone appreciates Celia's efforts. My husband, Celia's brother, and I certainly do. Thank you, Sis!
Everyone on this list has been so pleasant, helpful and dedicated. Thank you. Must be good Egner/Agner genes!
I would just like to say how much I appreciate all the work Celia Hartmann does to make this list possible. This is something she does because she wants to & we that benefit from it receive these benefits as a gift from her. I will use the information that come from the members of the list with gratitude & hope to contribute in anyway I can. I guess if any of us don't like so many small messages we can just unsubscribe. Thanks again Celia for all your work. Ceila-To clarify, Vaughn and I , from her research, and my family records are thinking that my 'Fannie" Egner(Agner) could be Hannah F.(listed in census and on marriage license obtained by Vaughn), who married James Wright, my greatgrandfather.
FYI: "Fannie"Egner(Agner) m. James Wright in Harrison Co.),resident of Wilsonburg,WVA> Children: 1.Dorsey Earl 2.Daisy 3.Mary 4.Dona(Doan) 5.Lee 6.Rufus 7. Andrew (My grandfather) Offspring of these children moved to W.VA,OH.,KY.,TENN.and their offspring in other states as well.
What state is Rockbridge County in?Thanks Kathy

On the Egner GenForum is a message concerning a ELIZABETH EGNER who married JOHN FAUNCE abt 1780-90. Their children were supposedly born in Cecil Co, MD and they also lived in Dauphin Co, PA. I wrote the person and invited to the list, but haven't heard anything yet. If I remember right, some of Mathias Egner's descendents lived in Dauphin Co PA. Perhaps further research on this Elizabeth will help tie the Cecil County MD line with the Mathias line! --Celia Hartmann :o)
----- Original Message ----- From: <NSchear@aol.com> > I am getting confused by other Agner info. I am > reading on the cite. Please clarify-Would Jacob and Mary A. Agner be the ones > from Rockcastle,Va., and since the census info. say Jacob Agner's parents > were born in PA., does that line connect to any of these others I'm reading > about in PA.? Was there a marriage license from Jacob and Mary A. inVA. Kathy, Jacob Agner Jr. (Jacob4, John3, Ludwig2, Johannes1) and Mary "Polly" Day were married 21 January 1838 by Rev. William M. Cunningham. The original marriage bond can be found in Rockbridge County. The marriage is also listed on page 235 of the RB Marriage Register #1. It says that Mary Day was the daughter of Thomas Day who was deceased. The bond was signed by the bondsmen: Jacob Agner Jr. (groom, he made an X mark), Andrew Agner (signature), and David Agner (he made an X mark). Not sure why census would say parents born in PA. The 1850 census of Rockbridge County shows Jacob Sr. as age 64 and a cooper. He had property value of $600 and he was born in MD. His wife Elizabeth was age 63 (btw, maiden name unknown). For some reason their granddaughter Mary (Jacob Jr & Mary's daughter) was living with them at time of census. (their other children were living with the parents). So, no there is no connection between the PA Egners and the VA Agners. Though the Agners/Aegenders did start out in PA where they lived for a decade or two after they came to America. Then one son (Henry) went to Rowan Co. NC and one son (Ludwig) went to MD. It is Ludwig's line that moved onto to VA and we think to Ohio. Does this help at all? It IS confusing because some of the Agners got changed to Egnor, and also because of lack of documentation ilable. --Celia Hartmann :o)
Listed in the family recollection is that Fannie's sister Liza(Prob. Elizabeth) had boy Doris and a girl Grace.(nickname?)Did you have that? Another sister Dona(short for Sordonia?) m. John Davis and had a daughter Nora, who married a McClury and another daughter Denise married to a Fittro.
Thanks. Clarification is very helpful.
----- Original Message ----- >From James Agnor, Jr.: > I think that George's father was James Agnor, Jr., his father was > James Agner. >From Celia: > George McDowell Agnor (James5, George 4, John3, Ludwig2, Johannes1) James (Jr.) and James (III): Hello! I'm finally getting around to commenting on the discrepancy. You have George McDowell's grandfather as James, and we have him as George. Our listing as George comes from the research of Ken Morris (a member of this list). He found a microfilm of the VA Dept. of Health's Bureau of Vital Statistics which stated that James Agner, white male, died 27 May 1883 at Buffalo of dropsy. He was aged 56 years, the son of Geo. and Susan Agner, born in Rockbridge, a farmer, and the husband of Permelia. Son John R. Agner reported the information. This is why we have him listed as a son of George Agner and Susanna Siders. The marriage bond for James and Permelia does not list his parents. George's (the grandfather) will, written 1850 proved 1855, does include "my son James Agner" who received 100 acres of land, including the house. Some places George's (the grandfather) name was spelled Aignor, others Agnor, others Agner. Pretty typical of Rockbridge records concerning our bunch! Other spellings used in Rockbridge included Egner, Egnar, Egnor, Eignor, Eigner, Eigander, Eagnor. Does this help? --Celia :o)

PASTY. I THINK I HAVE KATHY STRAIGHTED OUT NOW. FANNIE WAS MY LINE HER REAL NAME WAS HANNAH F. AGNER. DAUGHTER OF JACOB & MARY AGNER. VAUGHN
Hi cousins, Hd the opportunity to check out the Cecil County (Elkton), MD 1920 census and found some Egnors including some who should have been listed as Egners (I'm sure because they are "my" Egners, including my father, his brother and sister, and his parents). I also was able to spend a couple of hours in Elkton and located the gravesites of my grandparents, Roy M. Egner and Susanna Hendry Egner, as well as Mathias Egner. I took some pix and will pass them on when I get them developed. The 1920 census finds are as follows: Maurice Egnor Head of household Age: 39 Birthplace: MD Eva Egnor Wife 32 MD Anna R. Egnor Daughter 5 MD Albert Egnor Son 3 MD Martha N(?) Egnor Daughter 10/12 MD (this group used the EGNER spelling per other documents) Mary A. Egnor Head of household 57 MD John T. Egnor Son 29 MD Fannie Egnor Daughter in law 29 MD Herbert F. Egnor Grandson 1 11/12(?) MD (this is my line; correct surname spelling is EGNER) Roy Egnor Head of household 31 MD Susan (sic) Egnor Wife 29 PA (first name s/b Susanna) Madison Egnor Son 6 11/12 MD (first name is Roy; he was a Jr) Mary Egnor Daughter 5 MD Leonard Egnor Son 4 MD I'm beginning to understand that the census is not the most reliable source to depend on Celia and Patsy, we're getting closer to solving the missing connections for the Cecil CO folks. Jean :o)
Dear Vaughn (Fanny Egner/Agner M. James Wright) So grateful for your info. and all the help you have been to me. You are a gem. Except for your info., I am getting confused by other Agner info. I am reading on the cite. Please clarify-Would Jacob and Mary A. Agner be the ones from Rockcastle,Va., and since the census info. say Jacob Agner's parents were born in PA., does that line connect to any of these others I'm reading about in PA.? Was there a marriage license from Jacob and Mary A. inVA. Thanks, Kathy Cinti.
Patsy, You were the one that suggested looking at Whitley Co., KY. I did and it started working. I found some connections and several suspects. Recently, I had a lookup done on the 1850 census for Whitley Co., and down loaded the 1860 Census information. What I learned there and a post by Dave, enabled me to make the connection and in the past week I have links all the way back to Johannes Agender. Needless to say I am thrilled. Evelyn Watson was a great help, and bits and pieces from various posts by Celia have helped too. Naturally there are still lots of details that I hope to fill. Perhaps you can clear up some other puzzles for me. In the 1850 Census for Whitley Co. KY, there is an Absalam Egnor (could be Egner) 28 m farmer 100 NC, Matilda 26 f KY, Mary 7 f KY, Jas 5 m KY, Elisabeth 4 f KY, and Rebeca 2 f KY. Is it possible that Absalam is a sibling to Jacob or perhaps a first cousin? Thanks to you all for all the help, Hope I can return the favor somehow. Jim Davis
