    1. [EGNER] Rachel EGNOR 1745-1805; Germany > PA
    2. Allan Griffith
    3. I'd like to ask others on the list if they can supply any answers to the ancestry and siblings of Rachel EGNOR, allegedly born 1745 in Wurttemburg, Germany. She married Andrew MANN in 1760 - where? then migrated to Tolonoway Settlement area @ Pigeon cove, just NE of Warfordsburg, PA. - this area is just North of the Maryland State line and was Bedford Co, PA when they lived there but is now Fulton Co, Bethel Twp. They had 9 children. Andrew married Jane McCLELLAN after Rachel died. There seems to be quite a bit of information about Andrew's background, but nothing more than this on Rachel. I'm told that the above bits of information was taken from "the Lightfoot Collection" - but I've never seen it and I've wondered why it would have information showing a 9 year old female without showing other Egnors - perhaps parents died enroute ? This genealogical collection apparently shows Rachel emigrated to Philadelphia in 1754 from Germany. Now I've found another source listed in a CD-rom immigration index showing a Jacob EIGNER migrated from Germany to Philadelphia in 1753 - this is a close match - does anyone know anything about this Jacob EIGNER - OR - about the Lightfoot Collection" who can shed more light on this possible connection or anything else about Rachel EGNOR ? -- Thank you & sincerely, Allan Griffith, # 1 Jodi Lane, Bloomington, IL, USA 61701 home phone: 309-829-2063, if no answer try 309-828-2059 most reliable email: magriff@bigfoot.com alternates if above doesn't work: magriff@davesworld.net Personal HomePage: http://www.bigfoot.com/~magriff/ PEG HomePage: http://homepage.davesworld.net/~magriff

Please remember any information that these articles may contain should be treated as CLUES to your own research. Any clarifications or comments of my own are placed in [ ]. All typos are mine. =========================== (begin article) EYGNER EAGLE, VOL. VI, NUMBER 12 AUG. 1994 Benjamin Egner, born (according to Arkansas censuses) around 1789 in North Carolina, died 13 June 1867 in Independence County, Arkansas, married Catherine ____________, born 1789 also in NC. Records from Rowan Co. NC show that a Benjamin Agenor married Caty Bullon on 17 Dec 1811. The 1790 Census for Salisbury District [NC] lists George Bullen, Philip Bullen, and John Bullen. (Interestingly, none of the Agner or Bullen listings show slaves.) Rowan Co. court records also show that a Benjamin and a Peter Agender served in the Fourth Co. detached from the Seventh Brigade in the War of 1812. Benjamin had a brother Joseph H. Egner, born around 1792 in NC who is also listed in the censuses for Independence Co. AR until 1860. He arrived there in 1817, when it was still Arkansas County in the Missouri Territory, and he married Euphemia Ferebee of Batesville [AR] 25 Oct 1832; they evidently had no children. Joseph H. Egner served as treasurer and sheriff of Independence Co. and as a director of the state bank branch in Batesville. Catherine and Benjamin Egner farmed at Oil Trough Bottoms AR (named for old wooden troughs used in the early days to transport bear oil down the White and Mississippi Rivers to New Orleans). They had: William Egner, born 8 Jul 1817 in Henry Co. KY where they lived for some time. He died 15 April 1894 in Salado AR. He married 1) c1837 Sarah Jane Powell [had 10 children, I have list, if anyone interested; 3 sons lost in Civil War] who was born 13 Aug 1820 in KY and died 20 Jan 1873 in AR. 2) On 5 Apr 1874, Catherine Trammell. [Looks as though they left KY between the birth of two children, Aug 1840 and sometime in 1841] [Much of this information is contained in the book "Sims and Related Families," by William J. Sims, Dallas, 1989.] Later in this issue is more on Joseph H. Egner, from another source Dr. Marion S. Craig, who wrote this time line for Joseph in 1992..... 1817, He arrived in Arkansas County, Missouri Territory (Became Arkansas Territory in 1819) 1820, appears on tax list of Arkansas County, Arkansas Territory (first tax list for this county since the one of 1814). Soon moved to Batesville, which was laid out in 1821 as the county seat of the new county of Independence, which was erected on 23 OCt 1820 from part of Lawrence County, A.T. [Arkansas Territory] 1832-63, He was Sherriff of Indepdence Co, AT 1836-40, He was Treasurer of Indep. Co, STATE of Arkansas 1832 (Oct. 25), He married Miss Euphemia Ferebee of Batesville (formerly of Nofolk VA).....ref: Marriage Book A, page 23 for Indep. Co, AT; Arkansas Advocate: 31 Oct 1832; and Arkansas Gazette: 7 Nov. 1832 1837, He was reported among those killed in the burning of the steamboat, Ben Sherrod, 10 miles above Fort Adams, Miss. (Ref: Arkansas Times and Advocate: 22 May 1837) [in the May 29 issue his obit is listed -- now that would be freaky, to later read your own obit! in the 12 Jun issue both papers announced that he did not die] 1844, there are references to him and his brother Benjamin in the 7 Feb 1844 Batesville North Arkansas Times and the 6 Mar 1844 Arkansas Gazette [this is unclear as to why they are mentioned] 1850 & 1860 appears on censuses. Age 58 in 1850 and age 67 in 1860 After this timeline, Dr. Craigs says "I don't know when or where he died. He, nor his wife, Euphemia, are in the Independence County Cemetery book by Green."

    3. Hello everyone, Just wanted to pass on a couple of URLs that I find useful when doing genealogy. --Celia Hartmann :o) One is for calculating a date. This is particularly helpful if you have an obit that came out on July 2, but it only says that the person died on Thursday. Use this URL to generate a calendar for the month and year of the newspaper, then you'll be able to find out just what day the person passed away on. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabutler/javascrp/calendar/ ================================================== The other URL is used when you get back from the cemetery loaded with transcriptions that say "Jane Doe, died 10 March 1810, aged 54 years, 5 months, and 2 days" and you want to calculate her birthdate! Very handy! http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabutler/javascrp/tombston/

Two daughters married in Rockbridge, one son who WE BELIEVE was his son went to Ohio and founded that Agner line. We have insuffient proof to show the George who went to Ohio was their son, only speculation. We do have more information on the two daughters and the believed son. The dates refer to the record, not the marriage. I feel this is an error and that Mary was not married to a Christian Holmes. I believe the typist made an error when typing the index. The reference to which the typist refers to the marriage (the deed) is in my possession. The deed refers to Mary being married to a Christian Domar/Tomer. --Celia More About CHRISTIAN DOMAR and MARY EAGNOR: Marriage: Abt. 1785, probably MD Thanks to Rudy Thut and Bill Edwards, both descendents, we have some descendent information on this couple. There is still much to be found. =============== That is all we know of Ludwig's children except where mentioned as having more.

She put me in touch with some of the researchers, and some of those researchers have found their way to this list. Roberta has sent me some of her old "Eagles" (the publication of the EFA) and has given me permission to include some of the articles in our mail list from time-to-time. I sent two already, I think, and am long over due in sending the next. Will try to get to that this week. The articles are to serve as a guide only, especially since some of the data has been proven or disproven since the article was written. Since the Arkansas line was mentioned, perhaps that will be our next article. In trying to connect my Egnor line with someone I was in touch with Roberta often, as she had information on many different lines. I was always asking her about one line or another in hopes of connecting mine. That's how how I became so familiar with the Johan Mathias line, the Cecil County, MD line, and the Johannes Aegender line. Even though it turns out the first two aren't my line, I'm still interested in seeing some of their mysteries solved. My co-horts in crime, Carol and Patsy, and I worked hard on those two lines before discovering ours comes from the Aegender/Agner line. Now this list is the closest we've got to a Family Association. This list has more members now, that the Family Association did. So that means more of us researching the name, making connections, helping one another. With some more time, hopefully we can solve some of these mysteries! --Celia Hartmann :o)

    3. TO: The person talking about Ludwig's dauthers marrages, Hey right back to you cousin. I have not been very active on the Egnor name lately, but I have been reading all of the activity on this list. There have been a lot of messages going back and forth and I enjoy reading even though most of the activity has not been on my line. If you have a long or short story about Ludwig's daughters and their connection with Benedict & Henry. The way I get information off of this list there is no indication of who is sending the message or who it is going to. I may be doing something wrong, if so, would someone put me on the stright and narrow. 3. Hi Patsy! Are you a cousin too? Who do you belong to? I found this same book, but I found it at the National Genealogy Society over in Arlington. I copied the page, and I hope to get to the National Archives to get a look at the microfilm and print pages from that. PLEASE give a break when it comes to the Maryland archives! What a JOKE!!!!!! Benedict, Henry and John all belonged to Ludwig. I have to find tax records, something substantial to prove they were living there at the time and also copies of their records to substantiate my claims to the DAR. After I go through all the pomp and circumstance and hopefully get in, you guys could probably do the same! I'll share everything I have with you. I had mentioned to Celia that I had copies of their muster rolls, but I had a couple on the Connors from the Civil War (my paternal grandmother's side). As soon as I get to the National Archives and get the copies of the microfilm, I'll pass along to you guys. I'm hoping the copies will be good enough for me to scan into the computer at home and then just e-mail to you guys. I also had mentioned to Celia that I thought I had seen an Archibald - I had, but he was a Dudley - whom I thought was on my mother's side - long story there, won't get into it just now! Thanks for sending the info., I'd really like to get my hands on copies of those deeds, though, I have a couple of copies of some wills - hopefully this weekend I'll enter which ones I have and send along to you guys to see if they'll help you! I don't know if you're aware or not, but I went to NY with my husband in Aug. to do some research on his family. While there, we were driving through a cemetery (you know the drill), and I was looking to the left, he was looking to the right, and we both yelled "Hey, look!" at the same time. Only I was looking opposite of him! I spotted a tombstone with "Yoemans" on it, and he spotted a tombstone with "EIGNER" on it!!!!! It was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in a little town in New York, we have it all written down at home. But, not 20 feet apart, there were our 2 names across from one another - pretty weird, huh? So we took picture of all of them - one name was Lucille, Eugene, and I think Sarah - can't remember all of them right now. But, what do you think of that? Gotta run! Talk to ya later!!!! -----Original Message----- From: patsy adkins [SMTP:buckwheat2193@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2000 3:14 PM To: EGNER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [EGNER] AGNER'S IN REV WAR HI THERE... 3. Jean, Yes please let us know. It would be interesting if indeed the date is that early. According to the list of wills on Egnor/Egners in the County there should be one that died around 1810, he was married in 1808 to Jane Davidson (who later married Thomas Ricketts) and one that whod have died around 1894, the later probably the Mathias born Jan. 1811 to Mathias and Jane. I guess Mathias Jr. must have been a posthumous child. The name Mathias in Cecil County is what has always led us to believe that the line must have came out Lehigh from the Mathias Egner line. We just had no proof. Same with a Mathias showing up in NC/SC. I still believe that Mathias Egner's eldest son Jacob went south, but again no proof. ---Celia :o) ----- Original Message ----- From: Jean Deans <jbdeans@mindspring.com> To: <EGNER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 21, 2000 11:26 AM Subject: RE: [EGNER] Egners in Cecil Co, MD > There is a Mathias Egner buried in Elkton Cemetery who died around 1750 (as > I remember). 3. There is a Mathias Egner buried in Elkton Cemetery who died around 1750 (as I remember). I took a photo of his tombstone and when I get the film developed will verify the death of death. We do know that the Mathias Egner line of Lehigh County PA had a son named Peter who was married to a Margaretha. This very well could be Jacob's parents. We lose track of Peter and Margaret after their fourth child is born in Montgomery County, PA in 1780. Mathias came from German in 1727 aboard the Molly. Here is a URL to a descendent chart on the Mathias line: http://www.kerchner.com/des735.htm Peter is near the bottom. There's still lots to figure out in Cecil County, but this may be one step closer to proving the line did indeed come from Mathias. --Celia :o) ==== EGNER Mailing List ==== Post your Queries, Bible Records, Bios, Deeds, Obits, Pensions, and Wills on the appropriate GenConnect Board: http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/e/g/EGNER/#gc ============================== Free Web space.
