    3. I can't remember if I sent this to the list before, but if not here it is. Here's a list of our people at the BLM website: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ You can view on the screen the actual document. You can also order copies. This is a great site if you have not already visited! And if you haven't visited in awhile, the site has a whole new format and more states available (though not all documents are available to view on the screen--those ones are in red). I put in name variants as I thought of them, so there's no rhyme or reason to this list. ---Celia :o) Patentee Name State Issue Doc. Accession or Date Nr. 1. [EGNER] NARA Records
    2. Illyce MacDonald
    3. Dear Agner/Egner Researchers My two cents worth on the NARA Military Pension Records. I used to do research for others at the National Archives in Washington DC. While it is true the Revolutionary War Pension Records are on microfilm-and available at many research institutes- I don't believe the Civil War Pension Records are available in that format It is still necessary to check the microfilm indexes for the correct soldier, have the actual paper records pulled from the stacks and gone through page by page. I must say these pension records can be very fascinating but it can also be very time consuming work. While some files are small others can run into hundreds of pages! I am always amazed when working at the archives how they are able to put their hands on a file in sometimes as little as two hours. It may cost less and be accomplished in a more timely manner if a local researcher is hired to get the Civil War Pension records. Just a thought for those contemplating Civil War pension records. One other thing. Confederate pension records are found in the state the soldier served from not the National Archives. If Iremember correctly Confederate Military Service Records are available at the Archives. 1. [EGNER] German naming patterns
    2. If you go to Bundesland-L, or another general German site, you will be able to ask quest. of knowledgeable German researchers who can explain naming patterns which were very standard and rigid. Too complicated for me to explain correctly, but yes, every same sex child of the family had the same FIRST name, then two additional names, which were after specific family members on each side of the family in a certain family. Two brothers, therefore, may have children's names which were nearly identical. Cousins may have nearly indentical names.www. Cyndi's list .com, may have a listing on German naming patterns. Very helping to know this when deciphering immigrant ancestors new to America. A good German geneologist, when examining copies of Ger man church records, can nearly guess what the parents names, etc., must have been and make connections from knowing the naming patterns employed at that particular time. Fascinating

    1. RE: [EGNER] Smathers line of NC
    2. CELIA A. LEHMANN
    3. Celia, I think the Mary Agner m. to John Smathers is the daughter of John Aginder/Aegner, son of Henry Aginder, Sr. John also had a daughter, Catherine Agner m. Jacob Swink. They were named in the will of Henry, Sr because John was already deceased. In 'Family Tree Maker's Family Archives World Family Tree Vol 17, pre-1600 to present' Tree #1618 I find this information: John (Smither) Smathers b. December 17, 1781 in Rowan Co, NC; d. February 10, 1825 in Haywood County, NC; m. Abt. 1803 Mary Agner b. Abt. 1776; d. November 28, 1868 in Haywood County, NC. Parents of John Smathers: William Jr Smitter b. WFT Est. 1730-1759; d. WFT Est. 1782-1822. Parents of Mary Agner: John Agendar b. WFT Est. 1725-1754; d. WFT Est. 1777-1817; m. Unknown WFT Est. 1749-1796. List the five children the same as on the internet site. Can give more information on them. I think this is a match, do you? 3. HEY THERE CUZ... YOUR OTHER TWO SHADOW'S WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS THE OTHER EVENING ON ICQ.... 1.WE DNT THINK THAT ARCHIBALD CHANGED HIS NAME... THERE IS NO REASON FOR HIM TOO DO THAT... NOT UNLESS PEOPLE WERE GETTING HIM CONFUSED WITH HIS FATHER AND HIS GRANDFATHER "JOHN" THERE ARE NO OTHER CHILDERN NAMED JOHNATHAN IN THE FAMILY AT ALL.. THE ONLY ONE THAT COMES CLOSE TOO THAT IS JOHANNES HIS GREAT FATHER... 2 HIS OLDEST SON IS NAMED JOHN WASHINGTON EGNOR.. NAMED AFTER HIS FATHER JOHN JR... 3. PLUS IF YOU LOOK AT HIS DAUGHTER'S NAMES MARY SUSAN... WE WERE THINKING THAT MAYBE THE MIDDLE NAME OF SUSAN CAME FROM JOHN SENIOR'S FIRST SECOND SUSANNAH WALKUP.... 4. MARY ANN WAS NAMED AFTER JOHN'S JR THIRD WIFE.. SINCE HER NAME WAS MARY... BUT ANN COULD HAVE FROM LAHOMMA'S MOTHER...ANN MEADOWS.... 5. HAVE YOU NOTICED ALSO THAT THERE IS NO BARBARA IN THE FAMILY.... THAT WAS JOHN JR'S FIRST WIFE... WHY DDNT ARCH NAME ONE OF HIS DAUGHTER'S AFTER HIS MOM....HMMMM MAKES YOU WONDER.... 6. AS WE WERE SAYING THE OTHER NIGHT.. WE HADNT REALLY LOOKED AT THE NAMING PATTERN THAT ARCHIBALD AND LAHOMMA USED IN NAMING THERE CHILDERN.... ALSO THOUGHT OF SOMETHING ELSE... HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT NONE OF THE EGNOR SON'S ARE NAMED AFTER LAHOMMA FATHER...THATS WEIRD.... THERE ALWAYS AT LEAST ONE SON NAMED AFTER THERE MOM'S DAD NAME... ILL RIGHT IM STEPPING OFF THE SOAP BOX FOR THE MOMENT... JUST THOUGHT ID THROW OUT SOME OTHER THEORIES ON THE NAME GAME...HERE...SO ANYBODY WANTS TOO MAKE A COMMENT GO FOR IT... 3. Ann Noble, I was looking around in Whitney Co. KY and found cemeteries and found an Egner cemetery with Grubb's. One of them is an A J (Andrew Jackson?)Grubb born 1 Feb 1836 (My birthday only I'm a little younger). You may already this information but thought I would let you know. Here's the site to get to it. Also look on the page before the Egner cemetery there is a Grubb. http://www.abraxis.com/beegee/Genealogy/Kentucky/Whitley/CemeteryBooks/cbone14 0.htm#EGNER I'm not sure where the Grubbs come into the Egner line. Can you give me a short tree so I'll have an idea? Cousin Phillip "Dean" Egner 40 Fairview Chase Covington, GA 30016 770-385-0893

    3. Sorry Margie, I've had the genweb page bookmarked in favorites for so long and all I do is go to favorites and click on it. I see I put two b's in web. One letter off can make a world of difference. Try it this way and let me know if it works. http://www.usgenweb.org This should get you in at the beginning page of Gen Web. As you scroll down you will see the US map where you can click on the state you want. Another good one is www.cyndislist.com When looking for a subject without an address, type in www.metacrawler.com , then the subject you are looking for. After locating a site which you will want to find easy next time, put it in favorites. I believe our other computer called it bookmarks. Most of the time the http:// is not necessary. Let me know if this works.

Please take my data with plenty of salt - it is the best I know right now, but am constantly learning. Am pasting below some misc. text I have collected on Rough and Smithers. Betty Ralph Huntsville, AL John Rough: At the time of his father's death, John was bound to Christian Crider to learn the tanning trade. The family may have been German. On 12 August 1786 John was appointed guardian of his brother Phillip. He sued the executors of his father's estate over a land trade. He evidentially lost and appealed the verdict, saying the jurors had prejudged the case. The court found in his favor on 13 June 1787. He was listed in the Rowan county, North Carolina census in 1790, 1800, and 1820. 2. Celia, Ritch, & Beth
    3. ----- Original Message ----- > How do you go about ordering these records? Is there a form to > use & can you do it on the internet? Dear Celia and everyone else with the same question: You have to place an order for NATF Form 80s, which can be done by writing a letter to NARA or sending them an email, giving them the number of forms you need along with your name and snail mail address. You must fill out separate forms (same NAFT80 but you check different boxes) for the pension and for the military records--so if you want both sets of records, be sure to get 2 forms for each ancestor. There is a limit of 6 forms per order. email inquire@nara.gov or snail mail National Archives and Records Administration Attn: NWCTB 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20408-0001 They suggest that you order first the person's pension file, as the military service records rarely contain family information. If there is no pension file, then you should request the military records. If you are getting records on your Revolutionary War veteran, the pension and bounty-land warrant applications are combined and you get both by requesting the pension file only. The requried minimum information you must provide is: Veteran's name What branch of service State he served Which War or dates If it was the Civil War, did he serve Union or Confederate They would also like additional info if you have it, such as: Unit served If Army, was he in Infantry, Cavalry, or Artillery What was his rank What kind of service: Volunteers or Regular Date and place of Birth and Death Name of Widow Place he lived after Service This same form can be used to order bounty-land warrant applications (for Federal service before 1856). This form may not however be used for WWI or WWII records. Normally they copy complete compiled military and bounty-land application files. When they are unable to provide copies of all pension documents due to the size of the pension file, they will send copies of the documents THEY think is most useful to you for genealogical purposes (many documents are repetitive or administrative in nature). You may order the copies of all the remaining documents in the file, by making a specific request; they will notify you of the cost of the additional copies. You do NOT send money with this form, they will send you a letter stating that either they could not find the file you rquested (and therefore no payment is due) or yes they did find it and inform you of the cost. (They will hold your copies for 45 days awaiting your check or money order.) OR, if you gave them your credit card number on the form, the copies will be mailed immediately to you upon them finding the file and they will charge your card then. Here's the website if you need some other information I didn't provide: http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/ordrfrms.html Hope this helps everyone. Most of it came from an actual form I have. Hope there's a file on everyone's ancestors! I think the MD Aegender/Agners have already been tried and not found. ---Celia Hartmann :o)

    3. Celia, How do you go about ordering these records? I probably would be interested in doing this also & the price increase is substantial. Is there a form to use & can you do it on the internet? Thanks, Celia #2 -----Original Message----- From: Celia, Ritch, & Beth [mailto:hartmann@bright.net] Sent: Saturday, March 11, 2000 6:25 AM To: EGNER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [EGNER] Military/pension records from NARA Dear Listers: I just got word about the price increase for records at NARA. If you've ever thought about ordering your ancestors' military or pension papers, now would be the time to do it. I can't believe the increase! I've been thinking about ordering some, but haven't really had the extra money--but I think I'll do it now, as there's no way I'm paying the increased fees! Here's the scoop: The National Archives will be increasing the price of Military Service Records from $10 to $17.50 Pension Records (Rev. War, Civil War, etc.) from $10 to $40 Effective July 1, 2000 ---Celia Hartmann :o) ==== EGNER Mailing List ==== Post your Queries, Bible Records, Bios, Deeds, Obits, Pensions, and Wills on the appropriate GenConnect Board: http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/e/g/EGNER/#gc ============================== Personalized Mailing Lists: never miss a connection again. http://pml.rootsweb.com/ Brought to you by RootsWeb.com.
