Actually, my Mother was an Adkins, and my Dad a May, both from Lincoln Co. They are buried in Boone Co., However, other relatives are buried in Lincoln. I live in Delaware, so I have not had a chance to visit the cemetaries in a long time. Speaking of Adkins, maybe we connect somewhere along, the line. Looking forward to hearing from you, Kathi May -----Original Message----- From: patsy adkins <buckwheat2193@yahoo.com> To: EGNER-L@rootsweb.com <EGNER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 4:02 PM Subject: Re: [EGNER] Fw: Announcing the GC-Gateway >Hi there >This is known as the Griffith Cemetery Located up >the first dirt road to the left up Valley Fork >Road after leaving Route 3 at Griffithville, Wva >Lincoln Co. >the Egnors,Griffith,Hager,Harmon,Holstein Grass, >Dial and Lawrence are buried in this cemetery. >They have a gate on the road too this cemetery >too keep people out of it or ATV vehicles. Archibald is buried between two of his wives, Wife # 1 Lany (Laney Lahoma) Massey and wife #2 Mary Briane(Bryant). This cemetery is on land that Arch owned. The stones were set upright about 10 years ago by Dortha Faye Hasen RT #1 Box 87 Alkol, WV 25501. She has, over the years, done an awful lot to improve the conditions at many of our cemeteries. Archibald's third wife, Susan Carpenter, is buried in the Egnor cemetery on the Left Hand Fork of Mud River. Her grave is marked with a hand made stone. This stone was placed there in 1997 or 1998 but I don't know who did it. We have pictures at: http://GoZips.uakron.edu/~agould/genealogy.html "See pictures of the family as published in the notes of my family group sheets: !It's New!" So you will now receive via this Agner or Egner e-mail list anything that has been posted to the Agner or the Egner GenForum boards -- whether by one of us or someone else. I am in the process of establishing this connection for each of the boards for the Agner and Egner surname (queries, obits, etc.). After that we will sit back and wait for someone to post something to the boards and Rootsweb will forward it to list. ---Celia :o) List Manager ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Celia L. Finally, after spending several days at the NARA in Denver, as well as poring over a cd, lots of copying and lots of typing, the Egner/Egnor census information! I corrected and added some info to the previous 1900-1920 info I sent. The census is not to log information for future generations to refer back to, 75 years from now most of will be long gone and just a few scribbled lines in the census report. Should you and I write down the details of our lives for our descendants it will be much more meaningful than what is contained in some dusty ledger or a few digits in some yet to be designed computer. How many of these computer disks that we are creating today will be able to be read by the future computers, most of us can't read the stuff we put on the old 5-1/4 disks. The census is nothing more than a numbers game X number of people gets a House of Representative member, X minus so many reduces the number of Representatives in an area. Or who gets the next bucket of money and how much. Our founding fathers sure weren't thinking about family research when they wrote out the requirement, they were counting noses. As to the Value of a census record for Genealogical purposes I would make following observations. Census records across the country are historic for their errors, especially when it comes to the ages of the male members of the family. You must remember not all of our ancestors came to this country because they were happy campers in their homelands. Europe during all of it's history was in and out of wars, much the same as the world is today. You need people to fight these wars and not all people wanted to be what was lovingly referred to as "Cannon Fodder". As a result of this need e

In a message dated 3/13/00 4:52:07 PM Pacific Standard Time, illycem@hotmail.com writes: << While it is true the Revolutionary War Pension Records are on microfilm-and available at many research institutes- I don't believe the Civil War Pension Records are available in that format >> I am not sure about the Civil War records either. You must keep in mind that we did NOT have a National Army like we do today until World War I. Prior to that soldiers were raised by State Militias. Even today most of the soldiers serving in Kuwait, Kosovo or Bosnia were taken from the State Militias (known better as the National Guard). Some Civil War records are maintained by the respective states while others were sent to the NARA Regional archive as in Washington State. I recommend you find out what records are maintained by NARA (www.nara.gov) and what records are kept by the respective states (try Cyndi's List of Genealogical Sites at www.cyndislist.com or Chris' List of Political and Government Links at www.chrislist.com). You can also try to VA (www.va.gov). I had a Great Uncle who died at the VA Hospital in Walla Walla, WA in 1950. They had his records and were happy to share it with me. Good luck Chris
If you go to the GENDEX site and ask for Egners you will find some Whitley Co KY that were submitted by an Ernie Grubb. Perhaps he has some info for you. He has over 1,000 Grubbs, 14 Egners. Anyone been in touch with him? I noticed he also had Mary Agner who married John Smathers. But no info on her parents. I didn't have time to look it over well. Did see he had Mary/Polly Grubb's line back to the immigrant. Perhaps someone else can pursue. Here's a homepage: http://www.my-ged.com/grubb/ Good luck! ---Celia Hartmann :o)
