Author: miccii1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.edmonston/38.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Im researching the Edmonston line, but I have got confused. My Gt Grandfather was William Edmonston born in Edinburgh in 1830 he was a silversmith and engraver he married Eliza Jane Lenard in 1863 in London, they had 8 children. His father (my G G Grandfather) was also William Edmonston born about 1810 in Edinburgh and was a silversmith, he married Elizabeth Gerard in Edinburgh. I have little information about them..he died presumably shortly after their last child was born, so after 1840. They had 4 children, I suspect only 3 survived.... sometime between 1852 and 1861she moved to Islington with her grown up children and is on the 1861 census. Alexander Edmonston was my GGG Grandfather and was also a silversmith in Edinburgh I suspect that your Edmonstons were cousins of my Edmonstons...and the reason Im confused is that in those days the first born sons were named after their fathers, the Edmonstons were a large family at that time... so Ive just lost the thread. I would like to compare notes on this Pye line. I believe her parents were George PYE and Isobel THOMSON. Elizabeth PYE, born about 1800, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, married William Robertson EDMONSTON in Edinburgh on April 4, 1820. William was a silversmith and died in Edinburgh around 1834. Their known children (all born in Edinburgh except for William) were: Alexander EDMONSTON, b. May 20, 1821; George EDMONSTON, b. Mar 22, 1823; Isabella EDMONSTON, b. Mar 16, 1825, Margaret EDMONSTON, b. Mar 16, 1825 (twin of Isabella); William EDMONSTON, bap. Jun 6, 1830 (in Ratho, Midlothian); Marion or Janet EDMONSTON, b. May 14 1833, St., Cuthberts, Edinburgh. Miriam there, who is probably Allen's wife, isn't the mother of the kids unless she started having them at 9 years of age. They do match up pretty well with William and Jemimia in 1860, and Allen, b. 1857, will still be with his uncle in 1880. I'm going to assume the kids are Allen's nieces and nephews. The fact that a 33-year old husband with a 26-year old wife doesn't have a child born every 2 - 3 years after he married hints that: 1) One of them is infertile; or 2) They have had a string of children who died young; or 3) They haven't been married long; or 4) Something else. ---------- 1880, Clay, Dunklin, Missouri; p. 642C on the LDS (Name, Relation, Marital Status, Gender, Race, Age, Birthplace, Occupation, Father's BP, Mother's BP) Allen Edmonston, Self, W, W, 44, AR, Farmer, TN, TN Allen Edmonston, Nephew, M, W, 23, MO, Works On Farm, TN, MO Elizabeth Edmonston, Niece, M, W, 18, MO, Keeps House, MO, MO Samuel Edmonston, Nephew, S, W, 18, MO, At School, TN, TN John Arnold, Other, S, W, 24, AR, Works On Farm, AR, AR Timothy Lucas, Other, S, W, 22, MO, Works On Farm, TN, TN ---------- S W Edmonston posted this note, in a long list of misc. facts, with no source, on the GenForum Edmonson (Edmonson, no "T") query board in January 2010: Dunklin County , July 27, 1872. The Elizabeth and Allen Edmonston living with their uncle Allen on p. 642C might be Samuel's siblings, or they might be his cousins. This looks like Clement as a child. His bother Allen, b. 1858, looks like the Allen who was with Samuel on p. 642C in 1880. There is a Merideth family member, too. Note this is NOT proof of Samuel's parents, but it might give enough clues that someone could prove or disprove my theory. I'd be happy to send you a GEDCOM when I finish, in 6 months or so.
