Howard, I've been lurking in the background for over a year now. I know that I have Edmundson ancestors, I just don't know who. My grandmother was Grace Edmondson Mills born in Montgomery county TN in 1883. She always said that she was kin to the Edmondson and Blackwell families who came there from VA. Her maternal grandmother was Mary V Blackwell who m William Augustus Chadwick. In all probability Mary's father was Benjamin E Blackwell (and that E probably was for Edmondson, as that was the naming scheme of the above families). I think Benjamin E Blackwell was the son of John Blackwell and Mary "Polly" Edmundson. And Mary may have been the daughter of Upton Edmundson. Now I haven't proven any of this, but this line appears to fit it with tidbits of information passed down. Many families from Southside VA (Lunenberg, Brunswick, and Mecklenburg counties) ie Edmondson, Blackwell, Jones, Orgain, Neblett, etc. as well as many from Halifax county NC settled in Montgomery county, TN When I visited Montgomery county I found the following in the family files at the library. Essex County, VA Thomas Edmondson, Sr m Anne & Mary 7 children listed (they have been discussed in previous messages) Essex County, VA Benjamin Edmondson - m Margaret Underwood (I think that s/b UPTON) ch Thomas, Benjamin, Upton, Mary, Margaret Amelia County, VA Upton Edmondson m Mary note:Upton may not be the father of the 12 children listed below. this information found in papers of Robert & Christiana Jones papers. Now this is just what I copied and I know some of it is wrong, but it has given clues for further research. I don't doubt that the above Samuel was a descendant of Upton Edmondson considering the name of his 7th child. But obviously the last 8 children were not the children of Upton Edmondson who left a will in Amelia county, VA in 1771. Janie in Houston
