I have recently begun research on the Edmiston family of Bedford Co, PA, Morgan Co, WV, and Alleghany Co MD, and am hoping to find some additional information on this line to supplement what I have uncovered so far. The direct line in question is: Gen 1. Harry Ensey EDMISTON, b. 27 October 1892, Patterson Creek, Mineral Co., WV (Mineral Co. Births; Social Security application), d. 17 March 1965 Cumberland, Allegany Co, MD (family; Social Security Death Index). He married Laura Bell HAGER. Gen 2. Samuel Dixon EDMISTON, b. June 1868 (1900 census), Baltimore, MD (Morgan Co. Marriages), d. unk. He married Jessie ENSEY of Cockeysville, Baltimore Co., MD 2 December 1891 in Morgan Co, WV (Morgan Co. Marriages). The family lived at Paw Paw, Morgan Co., WV in 1900. Gen 3. Samuel B. EDMISTON, b. ca 1828, PA (census), d. unk. He married Mary Jane COLLINS 18 August 1858 in Morgan Co, VA (Morgan Co Marriages). He was enumerated in 1860 at Sir Johns Run, Morgan Co, VA; in Ward 15, Baltimore, MD in 1870, and in Cacapon District, Morgan Co, WV in 1880. Gen 4. James Thomas EDMISTON, b. 8 Aug 1793 (undocumented), PA or VA, d. unk. Married Mary MAGRUDER in 1817 (undocumented), location unknown. He was enumerated in Bedford Co, PA in 1830, Franklin Co, PA in 1850. The family was Presbyterian and references in church records do exist of the family. In the 1880 census of Morgan Co., WV, Samuel B. Edmiston's sister "Jennie" (Malinda Jane) was living with the family. The entry for both stated that they were born in PA and that their father was born in VA. However, the 1850 Franklin Co., PA census records that both James T. and his wife Mary were born in PA (though I have often seen very inconsistent entries in the birthplace column of the census). MAGRUDER is a fairly common name in the Montgomery/Frederick Co, MD area, so James may have been married in MD. But I am unsure if his ancestors were from VA or PA, though I tend to place more reliability on the 1880 census entry. My first guess would then be he was from the Frederick Co, VA area.
