They also operated during the war. In NW AR--where I was born--every 4th house was burned during the war. When one army left, either the opposing army moved in or the bushwhackers descended. The Feds shot gg-grandpop, when he objected to making yet another contribution to their larder, leaving a widow & 6 hungry kids (he was in his late 60's). Sometimes, it was hard to tell the difference between them. Tobe sounds like a really interesting ancestor! Maybe he got a posthumous parden? Nancy E.
