Sue, I used an index at the New England Historical Genealogical Society. They actually had three different indexes, published at different times. The one I referenced seemed to have the most information. All three were transcriptions of an index available at the National Archives and the information would be used to request the pension file. I think most of the regional facilities have the microfilm. I have not used the original film so I don't know how it compares to the indexes but I'm going to use the information to request John W.'s file. Hope it helps.
