To all, I have receive the will of Joseph Edmundson(Edmondson) dated 8-4-1744. I was under the idea that this is the father of Lt. James, but since James was b. 1751 and in the will it states that James is 16 years of age, I don't think it fits. but could this Joseph be his grandfather. Josephs wife is Precellow, children are John, Thomas, Elizabeth, James,Anne, Sarah, Mary, Joesph (the oldest) this is from Craven County, N.C. Regards Bill Edmundson
Hello Bill, Do you have an original or transcribed copy of Jos.'s will? I have seen a couple of extractions or summaries that leave me with unanswered questions. Jos. had a 1st. m. possibly to a dau of Joannah Smith. His 2nd m. was to Priscilla Graves and her ch are listed in the will as John, Ths., James, Mary & Precillar. Presumably, Eliza Biggs, Ann Garrett, & Unk. Fishpoole were the ch of m.1. Jos. refers to James as one of his 3 youngest ch. However, in one transcription that I saw, there is a reference to "oldest son, James". Either he had 2 sons named James, or perhaps the name "Joseph" was mistranscribed as James? The Agee book on the Mooring Family says that Lt. James was the son of John & Mary Cullen EDM (no proof) & gch of Jos. However, we have John m. to a Mary (probably Barrington). There was a Jos. EDM, who might have been the son of Jos.'s 1st m. & the eldest son. A Jos. EDM bt. 89 1/2 a. on the N side of the Neuse River on 16 June 1745. His 1788 NC will named his wife, Margaret, & sons: John, Edw., Simeon, & Bryan. Possibly Lt. James was the son of John (2), son of Jos. Jr.?
