    3. Hi Nancy, I have noticed a large number of Amesons census records in Martin and Edgecomb counties in North Carolina when I was doing earlier research (20 years ago), and always wondered about the same issue. I have always felt that there was a strong chance that these were either Edmondson's or Emerson's that probably were misunderstood by the Census Taker. Of course this is just suspicion and I have not been able to investigate far enough to reach a firm conclusion. 3. Hi Lee, That is an interesting question. I checked Martin Co, NC Tax List of 1779 & found James Emeson in Dist. 1 with 1 poll & personal property worth L400. Ths Edmondson was in Dist. 5 with L1997, as was a Wm. with L350. I presume that this was Dr.Ths. Ths. & Wm. were in Halifax Dist., Martin Co. in 1790. Ths. had 1 m (16+) 2 m's (-16), 2 f's & 2 slaves in his hh. I don't know who the ch of this Ths. were. Wm had 1m (16+), 1m (-16), & 4 f's. John & Wm. Edmondson were in the 1779 Martin Co military. I have seen Amison/Emeson's mentioned.
