That marriage came in 1791, too late, and the bondsman was Benjamin Organ. Organ m. 1789 Susanna Edmondson, d/o Upton, and since Susanna had a brother Benjamin, b. 9 Oct. 1770, I would bet that Benjamin was s/o Upton. Landon C. Bell, The Old Free State, (1905), II, 210, thinks that this is the right Benjamin and gives him a son Upton A. --but without proof. > > Of course that doesn't rule out the possibility of a MARY Tomlinson who m. One of the daughters is named Barbara -- an unusual name for this family.-- and this Barbara would presumably be of the right age &c. to be the Barbary of the Blount Co. will. > > But that's not all! Benjamin is a common name in the Essex Co. I did put all the Blount Co. data about Benjamin into my format, and will be glad to send it to anyone who wants to look at it. Nothing much new there -- I just tried to stick together everything I could glean from what you others have done. > > Best, > > Howard. > > > > ==== EDMONDSON Mailing List ==== > ROOTSWEB - our host: http://www.rootsweb.com/ > Help Desk: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ > Acceptable Use Policy: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html > > ============================== > Personalized Mailing Lists: never miss a connection again. > http://pml.rootsweb.com/ > Brought to you by RootsWeb.com. Howard, I was very anxious for your response on this as I have never thought Sterling belonged to the Benjamin who married Martha Tomlinson because he would have been only 18-19 when he paid pole tax in Mecklenburg County; however, I guess that was possible. We have few records on Sterling and the only census record that I have is the 1840 Hamilton County census which lists him between 50-60. I have not located the original record from Mecklenburg where he paid pole tax in 1810 nor have I researched the Mecklenburg census or deed records for that time period. You mentioned before that Sterling was the middle name for some of the Tn. Edmondsons. I have recently located @ least two Sterlings in addition to my Sterling. Sterling is listed in tax records of Montgomery County TN in 1891 and there is a Sterling Edmondson, Sr., of Nottoway County VA in 1870. I have not reviewed these records. Yes, I would like to have a copy of your records and thanks for all the information you provide on the Edmondsons'. Charolette Edmonson Sage

    3. I am a very, very frustrated descendant of one of the Edmondsons. I have tried in vein to find more than one piece of documentation for my line. The only thing I have found is EARLY EDMONDSONS IN MIDDLE TN. By Howard Vallance Jones and I am not sure how accurate it is or how complete. My line as I know it: WILLIAM EDMONDSON or Edmiston, Sr m. AGNES HOLMES maybe be from Augusta Co. Virgina or Maryland (NO DATES OR FURTHER INFORMATION) Son THOMAS EDMONDSON...born about 1759. Thomas grew up in Washington Co, Va Married MARTHA BUCHANAN , daughter of Robert and Mary Buchanan...This Robert was the son of Samuel and Martha Keys According to the essay by Jones, Thomas and Martha moved to the Nashville area in 1779-80, where they settled about five miles south of the original Fort Nashborough. His brother, ROBERT lived near by. Thomas died about 1824, left a will. Their children were: WILLIAM EDMONDSON (my line) - born March 29 1783. Died Jan. 28, 1822. Maried ELIZABETH BENGE, dau. of Obediah Martin Benge. Moved to Lincoln Co, Tn no date given Their children: MARY H. EDMONDSON b. 1810. m. JOHN F. MCDANIEL Lived in Lincoln Co. My Line Hugh McClung Edmondson b. 1813 no information Obediah Benge Edmondson b. 1815 m. Bethia Colville Martha Elizabeth Edmondson b. 1818 m. William Moffett Sallie McClung Edmondson b. 1821 no further information I don't have the rest of the children of Thomas and Martha and would like them to fill in my gaping database. This is all the information that I have on this line. Can anyone help fill in gaps and dates. Better yet, can anyone tell me where I can find some documentation with what I have? I have tried family search.org but either all the William Edmondsons are from a different line or the information is very different, and since it offers no documentation, I've kept what I found from this essay. Thanks for any and all help, Beth Sloan
