That is discouraging. I've had a similar experience with the Friends (Quaker) Library in London; they were most unfriendly...Julia, did you get any names in the Smith/Edmondson file? Maybe you could mail them a copy of your correspondence & request that they send the copies, when the file resurfaces? I would not mind sharing reasonable expenses for SC research prior to 1800, if we could locate a good researcher. Nancy, There were no names that I can remember. I had my husband empty my file to a disc for storage. It was the one which had the images of the correspondence. Can't seem to find the original. :( However, I sent a copy of it to Beverly Brunelle in Wyoming. Perhaps she could tell you what the name with Smith was. Yes, well, the English have never been known to be a warm, "friendly" people. I guess that wouldn't be the opposite to the Spanish, Italian, or Portugese then, would it?
