Anti-spam software often catches mailing list posts. The From: of the -L list will appear to come from the poster. If you use software which asks someone to to register, you will irritate the posters (who wrote to the list and not personally to you) and they not only won't register, but the list manager is likely to unsubscribe you because of bouncing email caused by the request. The Digests will appear to come from a RootsWeb address, and some anti-spam software often thinks that those posts are spam. I notice that Dick Eastman has recommended the "whitelist" kind of software - the kind which asks people to register. I assume he is going to get a "mailing list education" from some RootsWeb people. It is very odd that he would recommend that, because he recommended it on a mailing list (though not a RootsWeb mailing list). Margaret list manager

The following is from the New York Times - June 7, 1855, p3 Our readers have not forgotten the "Hard Case" of the EDMONSON girls --redeemed slaves, who had succeeded in raising money enough to redeem a brother from Slavery, when they were swindled out of $350 of it. Miss EDMONSON is now in the City, and has raised all but $100 of the sum that was lost. If any one desires to assist in the good work, remittance can be made to Mr. H. C. BOWEN, or Mr. J. E. WILLIAMS of the Metropolitan Bank. Promptness in this case is very desirable. Margaret Edmondson Olson
Dear list- I know there were a bazillion William Edmundsons in the Revolutionary War. Does anyone know about this one? He is buried in Putnam county Indiana, not too far from where my Billy Edmisten lived in Hancock county. Here is what the cemetery record says: "William Edmundson (Edmondson) was a Sergeant of Captain Pottersfield's Co. in the Revolution and Daniel Morgan Co. of 7th and 11th Va. Regiments. Served as Sergeant 1777 and 1779. He was paid as such soldier of the Va line 6/20/1783. No record to show that he served in 1781. He died July 1828 and was buried in the central part of the Old Cemetery, Greencastle [Putnam co.IN]. There is a marker." I will try to get his military records from the Archive. In the meantime, I thought I would ask if any other Edm- researchers can shed some light? Thanks for any information- Carol Edmisten
Good Morning Carol and the list. I don't have anything that will help you, but wanted to add my family background, just in case. My dead end is my g grandfather, Henry F. EDMONDSON. He was born in 1839. The place of birth is variously described as Vermont, New Jersey or, possibly New York. I have no information on his parents except that Henry's widow said that they were born in Ireland or Scotland. Henry served in the 1st Arkansas Infantry, (Union) in the Civil War, married Nancy E. BALTIMORE IN 1842 in the Choctaw Nation, Oklahoma. After the war they went to Illinois for a year or two and then to Otoe County,Nebraska. Henry died in 1902 at the Old Soldiers home in Leavenworth, Kansas. I wish you luck on your search. I have been looking for Henry's parents for more than 30 years. Regards George W.
