    2. Joan La Grone
    3. Hello Larry, No, the book is not an updated version of the Edmonstone book. By the way, Mary McGrigor, Archibald's sister, is the one who wrote the update. The name of the book is "Edmonstone Chronicles, Royal Knights and Scottish Kings" It traces the Edmostone family in Doune, Scotland, descendants of the Duntreath Edmonstones. This includes Sir James Edmonstone and his sones who came over to the American Colonies.. His brothers were William, John and Patrick. He had an Uncle, Robert, who is thought to be the Robert who first came over. However, there were several in this family who left Scotland. The book traces the family back to 1063 with many stories about them uncovered in my research in Scotland. Some of the 1875 info is included, however there is new information added. 3. Joan, Your latest message re the postcards with Sir James Edmondstone finally piqued my curiosity about the book to which you refer. Would you please give me the full title of the book and a little more information. In particular, is it an updated edition of the book by Sir Archibald Edmonston published in 1875? My Edmondson brick wall goes back to Robert Edmisten whom I first find in Argyle Town(ship), Washington Co., New York State a little before 1790. The connection of the author to Argyll, Scotland caught my attention. 2. Joan La Grone
    3. Hello List, The printer has promised to have the postcards with Sir James Edmonstone ready in two weeks. Sorry for the delays. HOWEVER, the wait has been very worthwhile as I have received a wonderful introduction to the book written by Lady Mary McGrigor, authoress and sister of Sir Archibald Edmonstone, Baron of Duntreath, Scotland. I am happy to share the following with you. "This is a book which will be of enormous interest, not only to the Edmonstones and their connections (Edmondson, Edmistons, etc.), but to people of Scottish descent throughout the world. Joan La Grone takes us back into the 14th century when, in the war of Independence, King Robert the Bruce saved his country from the dominance of English rule. Edmonstones of successive generations then served the Scottish kings in various capacities. John Edmonstone of the senior line of the family, for instance, being 'Keeper of the King's Silver to King James IV. The King then appointed Sir William Edmonstone of Duntreath as Captain of the castle of Doune in Perthshire. Sir William's descendant, Sir James Edmonstone of Newton, ancestor of the authoress, was a standarded bearer for the exciled King James VIII (the Old Pretender) at the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715. Shortly aferwards he famously defeated Rob Roy MacGregor in a fight at the market in Doune. Joan La Grone has been to the battlefield and she recaptures the story so vividly that it leaps to the reader's mind. Her book is a masterpiece of resconstruction and research which embraces Scotland and Ireland and the United States of America. This is a family history which covers a great span of history. It is not only informative but is also enthralling to read." Lady Mary McGrigor, Argyll, Scotland.

    3. Hi Saundra, I have a great grandfather, Henry F. EDMONDSON that I have been researching for years. I can't find his parents. He is described variously, as being born in Vermont, New York or New Jersey in 1839. His parents are reported as father-born in Ireland mother born in Scotland but I don't know their names. Should you ever run across this name, please keep me in mind.
