Nancy, thank you so much for your reply. I have been unable to find a Samuel D. (1806-1870) listed as a son of Bryant (1785-1854) who married Smitha Williams. It makes sense because the Samuel who married Martha J. E. Mcinish named one of his daughters, "Smitha". If possible I would like more information on Samuel D. and his wife Ester A. I read on the list back in 2000 that a Bill Edmondson(I think) was a direct descendant of Bryant Edmundson, but I don't know how to get in touch with him. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mark Wood" <[email protected]> To: "EDMONDSON-L" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 6:54 PM Subject: [EDM] Samuel Edmonson (reply to the Phillips) > The earliest ancestor was a John Edmondson. Hello Nancy, Thank you so much for this information! This is exciting info. From what you wrote my Sarah Edmundson was the daughter of Samuel D and Ester A - would this be correct? You did not list a Sarah. I hve not found anything other than she was married to George Ormsby. Do you have any suggestions on who I can contact from here? Again, thank you. Just by coincidence, I happened to have been looking at the NC EDM's for the past couple of days. They are a tangled mess to try to sort. However, your line has been traced back to the early 1700's. A relative of yours joined the DAR on this line & I suspect that if you check the posts to the EDM List, that you may find some data that she submitted. The earliest ancestor was a John Edmondson. A nice lady from MS let me look at her book on the Mooring Family & it has his wife listed as Mary Cullen (No proof cited). This book also alleges that this John was the son of Joseph EDM, & the gch of the man we call Ths. of Essex, who d. in 1715 with a will naming his ch. Joseph went to Craven Co. & it has been established that his son, John, m. Mary Barrington & remained in Craven Co for several years. Your descend from John EDM thru his son, James EDM (1751-1799), who m. a Penelope. James was a Lt. in the Rev. War from Dobbs Co, NC, who owned a plantation named "Bullhead". I have Robt. m. to a Lucinda/Lucy & having Ella, Charlie & Lizzie. I'm no expert on this family, so maybe someone who is can give you more complete info. Anyone interested in trying to sort thru the NC EDM's? Nancy Edmondson Wood

Hello Eddie, and other listers, Your message re. Edmondson (of Hull and Leeds) is the first one on this list that I've seen which mentions Edmondsons in Emgland. I am an Edmondson, but mine go back to Lancashire, 1840s to the present day, not to Yorkshire, as far as I am aware. Raymund Edmondson, my father, (1911 - 1988), married Margaret Rafferty (1916 - 2006) in Eccles (Manchester) - 4 off-spring. Raymund's father was John Edmondson (1869 - 1933), born in Liverpool, married Mary Jane Sharman (1872 - 1955) in Salford - 4 off-spring. John's father was Richard Edmondson (my mystery man, abt 1840 - abt 1880) - 2 off-spring with his 'partner' Mary Ann (Hesketh ?) (1842 - 1901). Mary Ann married Alexander Maginn in Salford in 1885. Edmondson was mainly a north-west England name (Cumberland, Westmorland, Lancashire) in the late 1800s. The above may not help immediately, but, with some input from other listers, we may find a connection. Best wishes.
