    3. Charlotte, Sorry I can't help you with dates for Martha Tomlinson. I do agree with you on an earlier death date for Richard Coleman EDM. I have him d. @1799 Lunen. Co. Re: Ths. EDM d. Spring Place--my "best guess" is that he was the son of Benj. & Martha Elmore EDM & gch of Ths & Griselle EDM. Naturally, Ths. has always interested me, since his desc's settled the next county over to mine. My earliest ancestor was Richard EDM b. 1805 SC, m. Margaret (Barron?) & in Union Co, GA in 1834. Their son, John Quincy EDM went to West Plains, MO, after the Civil War. He d. at the home of his son, Richard D. EDM, in Benton Co. My "best guess" for the parent of Richard b. 1805, is George EDM, son of Ths. & Mary Harry EDM of Fred. Co, VA & SC. Nancy Edmondson Wood

    1. [EDM] Thomas Edmonson of Washington County AR/Mecklenburg VA

    3. I hope we can find a place for this Thomas. While researching a related family line in Washington County, AR, I ran across the following: Thomas Edmonson departed this life on the morning of 8th August 1859 at the residence of his son James Edmonson, Esq at Spring Place in the state of Georgia. Mr. Edmonson was in his 90th year having been born October 10, 1769 at Mecklenburg, VA - his early youth was passed amid the stormy scenes of the American Revolution with his aged father, his uncle and elder brother participated as soldiers of the Continental Army under Washington. Mr. Edmonson was born of parents that whom none could boast better or purer blood in the old Commonwealth. The name of Edmonson, though not as prominet, is as fully identified with the struggles for American independence as that of Washington. Mr. Edmonson emigrated to Arkansas in 1838 and lived in this area until 1856 when he returned to the State of Georgia and resided the remainder of his days in the family of his son Col. James Edmonson. Mr. Edmonson was a member of the Episcopal Church. He left many relatives, children and grandchildren among whom is his son Samuel Edmonson Esq of the city. In addition to the above, mention is made of E.W. Edmiston minor heirs J.W. Edmiston minor heirs, M.A. Edmiston, deceased and S. N. Edmiston deceased. These names were all taken from The Arkansian 12/30/59.

Does anyone have thoughts on the Simmons will that mentions Elizabeth Edmonson who was the wife of Richard Coleman. Did they divorce or did he die before other records indicate that he did, or are there more than two Richard Coleman's? I know that Richard Coleman & Elizabeth had son Richard Coleman as mentioned in the Brown will. Charolette Edmonson Sage

Nancy, according to the Lunenberg County Marriages 1750-1853 published by John Vogt and T. William Kethley, Jr., Benjamin married 2nd Martha Tomlinson 5/12/1791, just double checked under Tomlinson, again Martha. Do we have any idea when Martha died? We know that Benjamin was in Blount County in 1816 as he purchased land. We know that Sterling married Rebecca Taylor in Knox County in 1816. Knox is adjacent to Blount, right? So it appears that Benjamin and Sterling were in the same area at approximately the same time. If Sterling was the oldest son of Benjamin and Martha which would indicate birth as early as 1792, then we are close to what Sterling stated was his year of birth and the same data has been carried down through the Edmondson family as well as the fact that he paid pole tax in Mecklenburg in 1810. Benjamin mentioned that the proceeds of his estate where to be divided evenly between his children so it probably covered the children by Keziah as well as the three by Martha. I love this history search, so any information will be appreciated. I have the Martin Luther side but nothing confirmed prior to Sterling. Sterling's second wife was Brown and they were from Hamilton County. Sterling's family is found in that county in 1840 and some of his family and his second wife are in the Carroll County Ark census of 1850, but not Sterling.

    2. Orvan, Any ideas of the dates or place for the Phillip Edmundson you listed: 3 Phillip Edmundson I am looking for one who would have been in South Carolina in 1801 (child born there - Philip P. Edmondson SC was birthplace according to the 1850 Alabama Census) and later moved to Bedford County Tennessee....still there by the 1830 Census(age 40-50) (but the last name was spelled as Edmison) My Edmondson's never seem to spell their name the same twice! As Bedford County, TN records burned I am really stuck! I know this is on the right track as the land record for Alabama land lists him as being from Bedford County, TN..... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! 3. This message is for Dr. Howard Jones..I have the Blount County Will of Benjamin Edmondson. It has only the three names listed previously of Parker, Sterling and Barbery. The will is dated 1823. The land containing 76 acres where Benjamin lived was purchased in 1816 from John Vikers. The land was deeded to Parker. The only other specific request was to Barbery consisting of a bed, furniture and a cow. The will requests that Parker find her a home and support as long as she live unmarried. All other property including horses, other stock, household and kitchen furniture be sold by executors and the proceeds deividen between my children now alive share and share alike. Sterling and Parker were named as executors. I have been reviewing many of the EFAB and specifically EFAB 32 Oct-Dec 1999 and EFAB Volume 30 July - Sept 1998. The specific information that I question is in Volume 30 from the editor's database. #16 is Richard Coleman Edmondson born approx 1740 Brunswick Lunenburg, VA and died about 1810 Mecklenburg VA. This is the Richard who was married to Elizabeth Brown daughter of Henry Brown. The Henry Brown will from the early wills of Mecklenburg 1765-1799 lists Elizabeth Edmonson and Grandson Richard Coleman Edmonson. The will was dated 7-21-1789 and recorded 10-9-1797. There is also a will of Samuel Simmons dated 7/20/1794 and recorded 11/12/1794. He gives various deeds of land and specifically mentions the following: Gives land bought of John McDaniel, Benjamin Edmonson and Henry Brown to son Samuel on the condition that he does not marry Elizabeth Edmonson, if he does the land reverts to other sons. Coleman Edmondson is listed as having submitted an appraisal and an inventory wih Charles Ogburn on John Wilson estate in September 1794. Richard Edmundson is mentioned with Samuel Simmons and Mordecai Brown (son of Henry Brown) as appraisers in July 1781 estate of William Burnett. I believe from the information listed in the Simmons will that Richard Coleman was most probably deceased prior to 1810 which is the date listed in the EFAB Volume 30.

Can anyone on the list give me some more information on this subject? Specifically, names of the people involved, where in Ireland and when. Are any Edm--- descendants of these people known to have come to America. If so, what is known of the times and places of their migration. Are there readily available printed references or web sites with this information? Thank you much in advance. Larry Dean Vancouver, WA, USA

    3. Sue, I used an index at the New England Historical Genealogical Society. They actually had three different indexes, published at different times. The one I referenced seemed to have the most information. All three were transcriptions of an index available at the National Archives and the information would be used to request the pension file. I think most of the regional facilities have the microfilm. I have not used the original film so I don't know how it compares to the indexes but I'm going to use the information to request John W.'s file. Hope it helps.
