Dear EDM- researchers- Just got back from a fruitful trip to Iowa and Nebraska continuing my search for Edmisten/Edmundson ancestors. I believe I found the death record for my great-great grandfather, William Edmisten/Edmundson in the courthouse at Sidney Iowa. (What a thrill! It was in the oldest book of death records they had.) He was listed as "Wm Edmundson" and he died Dec. 9, 1885 in Scott township, Fremont county Iowa. He was listed as a farmer, married, and had been a resident of Iowa for one year. (Thurman Iowa was where his son, my ggf got married 5 years before so I thought it made sense that he moved closer to his son & family.) It said he was born in Ohio. (We had thought he was born in Hancock county Indiana.) He was 73 years, 11 months, and 3 days old. If I did the math right, that makes his birth day January 6, 1812. I still do not know anything about his wife. His children were William Alexander (b.1839), James Wesley (b.1842), George Washington (my ggf)(b.1846), and daughters Rachel, Catherine, and Susan (no dates known). Does my William ring a bell with anyone, possibly of the Edmundson persuasion in the Ohio (or Indiana) area? Any help sincerely appreciated. Thank you! Carol Edmisten
To all on the EDMONDSON-L who endeavored to help, Thank you so much to all of you Edmondson researchers who helped me to find my gg-gf and my ggg-gf. I could not have done it without you: Orvan, Beverly, Jean, Grace, Nancy, Howard, et al. Thanks so much. Julia Florida/USA
Walnut Grove is in Greene County, Missouri, the home of more than one of my ancestral lines, Stanley, Osborn, and Claypool. Betty L.
Congratulations on your pending gtrandchild. We have our second grandson [so far there's only two of the boy kind....8 of the other variety...ages from 19 to 5...] staying with us while his folks are suffering from culture shock of living in the Philippines for the past ten years [missionaries], and now adjusting to civilian life in Silicon Valley [full-timing now for Xerox, instead of just four hours a month...which has supported them over there]. He's a fun kid; 15 years old...and I just enjoy sitting back and watching him grow. 6 ft high and rising! Can you remind me which county Walnut Grove is in? Is there an EDMONSON/EDMONDSON wildlife sanctuary nearby? Somewhere in my travels I found such a place...and as soon as I relocate it, I'll see what came of my photos of a visit there in 1995[ my husband was bicycling across the U.S., and I could take genealogy detours since I was driving our motor home...and could go faster than he could.] Some LDS records are on line...but I still rely on the census records at the N.A.R.A., so will try to look up Cyrus when next I go up there. Nikki, we have an LDS Library near where I live, but I just haven't taken the time to access it. I understand that it can now be done from the comfort of our own home computers too. I had thought of the possibility that the S. could be for Syrus instead of Cyrus, too. As we are awaiting the arrival of a new grandson this week, I will not be able to pursue this for a little while yet, but thanks for the suggestion. Betty L.
in your information you said"William Coleman Edmondson died 1912 in the Civil War." Did you make a mistake? The Civil War was over in 1865. Well, yesterday I was in the Mobile, AL Genealogical Library, and I recall specifically seeing an Emma and an Edward Edmonson in some of the bibliographies in which I was looking. I was looking in South Carolina and Georgia for the most part. The rest was in Lousiana and Texas. However, I cannot recall exactly where it was. The next time I go there, I will look specifically for those two names, as I know that I saw them there. Thanks for the e-mail Julie. I do not know if this is my Virgo, but I will try and see if it is. Thanks again. Charles
Hi, Julia, Yes, he/they are "Edmonson" on one of the censuses, maybe 1870 in St. Louis, MO, but I have never seen him as "Charles", always "Charles E." His mother is simply R. Edmonson on that one census. He is listed as Charles Edward Edmondson, res St. Louis, MO, born Ohio, in his military papers. But Boanerges R. is listed as birthplace Ohio on his military papers. I always thought him to be born in St. Louis, but I suppose they got around, living on the river highway. Also, there was an Edward Edmondson, sibling on the 1860 census--Charles E., Richard H. dec'd, Boanerges R., Edward, Edwind, and Emma on the 1860 census. That's the only time Edward and Emma appear on a census. But Emma is missing on the 1870 and 1880 census, yet dies in the Female Hospital in 1884 after being confined there for six weeks. If you can't get to an LDS [Mormon] Family History Center [library]; I may be able to look it up for you next time I go to the Archives in Seattle. I now have to wait until I have gas $ and enough requests at $10. a name to make the 200 mile round trip.. Nikki
Dear All: These are abstracts of Chester Co. wills. I have the full texts for all of them, I think. The one for Robert is somewhat garbled; date is 1738, and it's a grant of administration to Mary, presumably his widow. Nothing about "marry" there. I also don't know what the numbers are.
