    3. List administrator is here - I am Margaret Edmondson Olson. If you want to talk to me about the list write to EDMONDSON-admin@rootsweb.com (easy to remember) or olson@shout.net. At 09:04 PM 11/1/2000 -0500, you wrote: >I do hope that this was not an intentional e-mail to the list. Reprimanding people on the list is not my style. I emailed him/her privately. The best thing for subscribers to do in a case like this is just to delete the message. Write the list manager if you have some concerns. I won't speculate on how or why people send off topic messages - or so many Cc:s - except to guess it went to all messages in an address book. I hope we can get through the next week or two without political messages. The non-US residents on mailing lists must be doing a lot of sighing these days. Speaking politically, though, and on topic - I have an Edmondson ancestor who got into politics. Thomas Edmondson (1820-1898) ran for Treasurer of the state of Ohio on the Prohibitionist ticket - or at least that is part of the family tradition. He attended the convention which founded the national party in 1869 in CHICAGO. I haven't yet tried running this down except to do a Google search on the Prohibitionist party. Margaret

    3. I do hope that this was not an intentional e-mail to the list. I receive over 50 "SPAM" e-mails daily along with usually on average 150 genealogy e-mails every day. I do not wish to have any more. The other lists that I subscribe generally reprimand the offender or remove them. If this was a mistake please be more careful when addressing your emails. Michael D. 3. I agree with John that having a source for EDM pictures on the internet would be a good idea. I would be happy to contribute a picture of my gg-gf, John Quincy EDM b. 1828. Orvan published a picture of Margarette EDM in an issue of EFAB & there is certainly a resemblence, confirming my belief that she is Quince's sister. Re Chan's letter, my children aren't interested in genealogy, either. Hopefully, his research will be of interest to a gch or even a g-gch or fill in the blanks for some distant cousin. I ran across Emily Dickinson's poem, "I Like to See It Lap the Miles", which contained a reference to "Boanerges". I remembered that Chan's family chart has a son named Boanerges and checked the footnote. Boanerges: a vociferous preacher & orator; also meaning "son of thunder", a name that Jesus gave to apostles John & James, because of their fiery zeal. So, at least we know that Chan's ancestors had more than a passing acquaintance with religion. Those little nuggets come from unexpected sources, which is what makes it so interesting. 2. I would be interested in contributing the Edmonson pictures I do have. I have a family picture of W.W. Edmonson (William Washington) who is the namesake for Edmonson, Hale Co., TX. I'm trying to locate more and will be attending a reunion in January located in Plainview, Hale Co., TX. Hopefully I'll pick more up then. Re:Chad In my HUGE family, the Geneologist hat passed from my Great-Great Aunt to me, so the interest in geneology passed over 2 generations before I took it on. So far in 1 year I've loaded my tree with a little over 3000 individuals and believe it or not gotten my entire family interested in there roots. So, don't fear....someone is bound to have a "investigative" spark in them somewhere, perhaps a couple generations down. :) Your work will be the backbone to someone else's research. Greatly appreciated I might add! Gayla On Wed, 01 November 2000, "nancy_wood" wrote: > > I agree with John that having a source for EDM pictures on the internet > would be a good idea. 2. This is a very sad note. Have faith your daughter may yet learn to love those that have gone before.... I asked my daughter to type an old diary for Belle Edmondson from the civil war days and she built a special kinship with Belle so there are opportunities and yours just haven't come yet. Best Regards, John Miller PS you mentioned pictures has anyone tried to catalog old Edmondson pictures? I will be glad to share the few I have electronically. The last I heard of Orvan, he was still busy trying to get out the Sept, 2000 issue of the EFAB. He does a remarkable job. He is only the third editor that we have had in >30 years. He is very cordial with all. He has published in the EFAB many of the desc in his Pollard Edmondson line. They took a craze path to NC, Knox Co., Tenn., and I don't know where to Indiana. (Don't write that route down; it's from my fuzzy memory.) I wish you had been on board since his first issue. More than one issue is on his line as he didn't have anything else to publish. The old collection from "Bill" Edmundson, Pasadena, Calif, somehow, just hasn't been turned over to Orvan yet; so he has done a marvelous job, what with all the begging for assistance that he has had to do. I think that Orvan is rather new to genealogical research; but he attacks it like an engineer; so he's made no blunders that I can think of, not that haven't been a spark or two over published articles. I hope everybody likes everybody at this point. Margaret the rootsweb list owner is loads of data, but I don't know what about. My sad story is that I haven't turned up a new generation since ~1968. My granddad Edmondson, 1872-1948, Texas, didn't know the first names of his father's parents back in St. Louis, Mo., when his dad died in Waco, Texas in 1911. City directories and Census indexes helped me connect the family that I had suspected were mine for several years. When I found a studio picture of my ggranddad in East Texas, it brought tears to my eyes. THEN I found two more in the Comanche Co., Texas, group--MINE. They sort of knew that I was struggling with this guy for years, but no one ever breathed that my own uncle had a picture and so did my dad's first cousin, from same county. Soooooo, at 65 I may never find my guys in Ohio, but I will die trying. Only one other cousin cares. My kid doesn't care. I don't think she likes our surname. In fifteen years I'll give printouts to or disks to some company like ancestry.com and then dump the other folders in the dumpster. 1. [EDM] David J. Edmonson s/o SW Edmonson & Eliza Nolen
    2. The LDS lists 2 sourced for David J. Edmonson, both support the following: David J. Edmonson born July 3, 1847 Davidson Co., TN son of Samuel Washington Edmonson & Elizabeth Nolen The sources are: 1) Endowements for the dead, 1956-1970, baptisms for the dead, 1956-1970. 2)Sealing for the dead, couples and children (including some living spounses & children) 1856-1970 Hope this helps. The 1850 Davidson Co., TN census are strange for SW & Elizabeth Edmonson. Yes, David does not appear with them as he should if he was born in 1847. However his sibling Adeline is reported as 3 years old in 1850, then reported as 10 in 1860. 2. Dear Orv, Thanks you so much for sharing your info. I must apologize in advance for still trying to figure out who the siblings are of my line. I was just looking at Lisa Mashburn's tree on Familytreemaker.com and assume that you probably recognized names in my previous e-mail. I am guessing that William Sterling Edmonson was a son of Richard H. Coleman and his 1st? wife Elizabeth Featherstone as well as a brother to my line-Samuel Washington Edmonson. Please steer me in the right direction :) I also have a Martin Luther Edmonson who was Samuel W. Edmonson's great grandson. 3. Bob: The exact location of where Col. William lived as a child is not know. He was born in Cecil Co., but the territory was disputed between Maryland and Pennsylvania. Some of the probable relatives of the Colonel lived in E. Nottingham township in Chester Co. PA, which is on the state line. The family moved to Augusta Co. VA when the Colonel was a child. They lived in what is now Rockbridge Co. They moved on to the Glade Spring VA. area in the 1770's. Nearby, in Emory, VA, look up Dr. Ashcroft. He took the original cabin of Col. William, moved it to his back yard, and reconstructed it. When you see it, ask yourself how that family ever fit into it -- 14 children after all. Bob, how do you descend from the colonel? Howard V. 2. Fay Stengler
    3. Bob, I am a descendant of Col. William Edmiston and Margaret Montgomery through their daughter Esther Edmiston who married Robert Campbell Kennedy, possibly a brother of Elizabeth Kennedy, Col. William's second wife. I visited Virginia a few weeks ago, and I, too, was visiting places where my ancestors lived and died. From the information I have, Col. William was born in Cecil County, MD, but one researcher said that that county bordered Virginia and some times was considered in Virginia and sometimes in Maryland. He lived for some time in Augusta County, Virginia, near Staunton, which I visited. He died near Glade Springs in Washington County, VA or Seven Mile Forge which is located in the next county. Seven Mile Forge is where Col. William's relative and his commanding officer at the Battle of King's Mountain, Col. William Campbell lived. I did not find much to see at Glade Springs, but there is a highway marker at Seven Mile Forge concerning William Campbell. The country is very pretty around Augusta County and Washington County. I hope this helps a bit.
