    1. [EDM] New possibilities - Edm from TN>AL>MS
    2. Beverly Brunelle
    3. Hi all! Received some new info from Bedford County, Tennesse this weekend. If you will remember from my other posts, I am looking for the parents of Philip Edmondson/Edmonson/Edmundson who bought land in Alabama - and the land record read - Philip Edmonson of BEDFORD COUNTY, TENNESSE. In 1830 and 1840, only 2 Edmundsons appear - Philip (possibly the father of my Philip) and a Richard Edmundson. (One spelling is also Edmison in the 1830) Now for the new info: ALL in Bedford County Edmonson Cemetery, located near Singleton, TN ------------------------------------------------------- Edmonson, James W., 14 JUL 1842, 03 JUN 1875 Susan, wife of Thomas Terry, <no date listed>, 24 OCT 1832, Aged 26 years Several field stones with no inscriptions (as she would have been born in 1806 - a likely candidate for the sister of my Philip b. 1801) Cannnot find anything on Thomas Terry NEXT: Word Cemetery - about one mile north of Pleasant Grove, TN ------------------------------------------------------- S. W. Edmondson, wife of William Word, 14 MAR 1809, 13 JAN 1900, Married 26 FEB 1834 Word, William, 27 JAN 1804, 28 NOV 1873 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- William WORD (AFN: 1PZM-8JR) Sex: F -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 11 Sep 1807 <, Clariborne, Tennessee> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: John WORD (AFN: 1PZM-81N) Mother: China RENFRO (AFN: 1HCM-74T) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriage(s): Spouse: Susan W. BARTON (AFN: 1PZM-8HK) Marriage: 18 Feb 1834 Aparantly the Widow Barton married William Word - Susan, was Susan W. Edmondson (This would make this Susan b. 1809 another possibility for a sibling to my Philip >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> My Philip did name one of his children from his second marriage Susan Is anyone familiar with either of these Susan Edmondsons????? 3. Can anyone tell me if this would work? If I wanted to find, say Charles Edmondson after 1870 in Missouri, could I find a marriage for an Edmondson using the new added database containing the Missouri Marriages 1851-1900, and then perhaps research that line to see if it tied in to a Charles Edmondson? Perhaps narrow down the possibilities of Edmondsons related to said Charles? Julia No state, no country stated

    3. Betty, Do you need any info from Glenrock - it's twenty minutes from my house here in Casper!!!!! Would love to make a genealogy run - all my needs are in LA, MS, and AL, etc - so I don't get to "do genealogy" runs!!! Is this part of your Cyrus's family? Deed Book 4 p. 293 Syrus (Cyrus) Roberts - nominated Officer in Pittsylvania Co. Militia Feb. 27, 1777 I have Roberts in that area and time period - but kept tripping over Edmondson's! Wish I could get my Edmondson's past Tennesse to contect to someone! 3. While trying to catch up on my e-mail, I read one from RootsWeb & clicked on http://userdb.rootsweb.com/contributors.htm and looked at the AL Land Records. I was checking on Barron records, because I think that Margaret b. 1805 NC/SC & m. to Richard EDM bef 1827, was a Barron. I found several in St. Stephens watershed, with John Barron there in 1825. Others: Alexr., Chs., Jacob, James, Jamison, Robt., Ths., & Wm. I know that Alexr. was from E. York Co, SC & the others may have also been from there. The reason that I developed an interest in these particular Barrons, was that some of the desc's gave sons the middle name of DeKolb or DeCal (sic) & my g-gf is Richard DeCal EDM, gch of the above Richard & Margaret. I checked EDM's & found these in St. Stephens watershed: Caleb in 1843 with 76 a. in Twp. 11 N, Range 12 E, Sec. 1. Phillip in 1835 with 80 a. in Twp. 14 N, Range 9 E, Sec. 35. Ths. in 1833 with 56 a. in Twp 18 N, Range 12 E, Sec. 25. The EDM's are in close proximity to the Barron's & I think that they may be related. I remember seeing a Caleb Barron & wonder if Caleb EDM was named after him? (I don't think that he was from the Caleb Edmundson line, also in SC.) Does anyone have any SC EDM/Barron info? Thomas Edmondson 00001-00001 (also had 5 slaves) #19. James Edmondson 00101-00101 #18. Ths. Edmondson is the "retired" innkeeper from Winchester, Frederick Co, VA. He was the son of John EDM & Susannah Norman & the gch of James & Judith Allamon Parr EDM, & g-gch of Ths/Essex. John EDM's sons were Philip Parr, Ths, Judith, James & Wm. The latter m. Leah, but had no ch. He left a will naming Leah & leaving property to his siblings. The distribution identifies the brother Ths. as being the one in Fred. Co. & James is m. to Priscilla (Mooring). #18. Ths EDM left a number of deed/will combinations, that named his sons. The son, John, isn't mentioned after about 1805, if memory serves me right. This has lead some researchers to conclude that he was the John, who d. in Staunton, VA, after purchasing property from a Wm EDM. I'm not so sure, since the #17. John could also be his son. I would imagine that #16 Wm. is the son, who settled early in SC on the Broad River & was a JP in 1806. #18. Ths EDM also had a Benj., who appears to be around long enough to sell property inherited from his father. I think he may have gone to GA aft. 1813. #18. Ths's son, George, was also an early JP & settled on George's Crk. There was a James EDM on the 1787 pers. prop. tax list of Fred. Co., along with Ths. (#18) & Mary EDM, widow of Ths's son, Ths. II (no hrs.) I don't know if this was #19. James & if he was a son of #18., but it seems probable. James may have had a son/dau & their spouse living with him in 1800, or he may have had 2 older ch. Can anyone enlighten us further on these individuals? Nancy Edmondson Wood

    1. [EDM] EDM- roll call
    2. Carol Edmisten
    3. Hello, EDM- Researchers: My name is Carol Edmisten. I am up in the Seattle area. My oldest EDM- ancestor is my g-g-grandfather William (Billy) "Edmundson". He died 12/9/1885 in Thurman, Fremont county, Iowa. According to the ledger in the county courthouse in Sidney, he was a white, male, married farmer, born in Ohio. At 73 years, 11 months, and 3 days of age, I figure his birthdate to be January 6, 1812. He had resided in Iowa one year when he died of peritonitis. I don't know who he married but he had 3 sons and 3 daughters: William Alexander Edmisten (1839-1918), James Wesley Edmisten (1842-1918), and my g-grandfather, George Washington Edmisten (1846-1920). The daughters were Rachel, Catherine, and Susan. I don't know their dates. Rachel may have married a man named Nichols and lived in Fremont county NE also. G-g-gf William must have lived in Missouri at some point, for that is where my g-gf George was born in 1846. George's brothers, William Alexander and James Wesley, were early settlers of Cass county Nebraska (town of Union). Both are buried there. James Wesley married Sarah Ann Eaton there in 1865. My g-grandfather George W.married Annie Elizabeth Gish of Thurman Iowa in 1880. Thurman IA is just across the Missouri river from Union NE. George and Annie lived in Union NE for a time and then moved their family to Wessington Springs SD. My grandfather Ernest Edmisten was born in Union in 1892 and my father Virgil Edmisten was born in Wessington Springs in 1922. My brothers and cousins are now clustered mostly in California and around South Sioux City NE. What I would most like to know: 1) Who were my g-g-gf William's parents? Anyone know of EDM- families in Ohio around 1812? I suspect, since he named his eldest son William, that his father may have been a William also. 2) How did "Edmundson" become Edmisten? Is the 1885 Fremont co. death ledger wrong about the spelling for g-g-gf William's last name? In 1865 William's son James Wesley on his marriage certificate plainly signs "Edmisten". I can understand how someone hearing "Edmisten" can misunderstand it to be "Edmonson/Edmundson/etc". This happens to me all the time when I tell people my last name! But I don't get how someone can hear "Edmundson" and interpret it as "Edmisten". That doesn't make any sense to me. Over time, why haven't all the Edmistens disappeared-- since the most common thing that people hear is Edmonson/Edmundson/ etc.?? Thanks to Margaret, Orvan, Howard, and all the other EDM- experts who share their knowledge so generously! I truly appreciate you- even though no one seems to recognize my William "Billy" Edmundson/Edmisten yet! Carol Edmisten

    1. Re: [EDM] Richard H. EDMONDSON
    2. To the descendants of Richard H. Edmondson: I have a copy of Richard H. Edmondson's Confederate Penison Application. He was AKA Edmundson. He enlisted June 5, 1861 at Yorktown (I assume VA) a private in Co A, Montague's Battalion VA Inf, CSA. He was promoted to second Lieutenant April 4, 1862. He was released from duty May 5, 1862. His Conf. Pension Application is dated August 29, 1906. At this point he had been a resident of Austin, Travis Co, TX for 30 years. His address was 1209 East 12th St., Austin TX. For somereason his pension wsa disapproved on September 24, 1907 by J.W. Stephens, eventhough the information he supplied matched the data received from the War Department in Washington. I would like for a descent to have these records, since this Richard H. Edmonson is not my Richard H. Edmondson who is found in Panola Co., TX in the 1870,1880 and 1900 census. However, since my Richard H. Edmonson parents (Samuel Washington Edmonson & Elizabeth Nolen) lived near Travis Co., TX, I wouldn't doubt if this Richard H. Edmondson of Travis TX is a relative of Richard H. Edmonson of Panola Co., TX. Gayla On Sat, 04 November 2000, CEdmondson wrote: > > Dee and Gayle mention a Richard H. 3. The EDM rootsweb list and the EFABulletin are not one and the same though the members overlap quite a bit, I hope. They are both very important to us as EDM researchers. The two groups compliment each other. The EFAB reaches libraries. Our EFAB editor, Orvan D. EDMONSON is busy getting out the Sept issue of the EFAB, last I heard. You will probably not hear from Orvan until that task is completed. (And then e-mail messages get lost; please be patient, and send in your data to be published. Those Bible records that you have shared with us are very, very vital to someone, and getting them in the EFAB is another way of sharing them.) Happy Hunting! 3. The Vermont birthplace throws me. Otherwise, your guy sort of fits with my by Charles Edward Edmondson, b. 1835, Ohio, grew up in St. Louis, Mo., enlisted in 1st Cherokee Mtd Vols (CSA) in Indian Territory, but close to Arkansas. I don't know where he went after 1870 census of St. Louis. I relate to your attempt to connect to other researchers. Chan J. Chan EDMONDSON edmoski@airmail.net Dallas, Texas desc of John F.
