Author: Contribution Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.edmiston/360/mb.ashx Message Board Post: MANSFIELD: Phyllis Davis Edmiston, age 88, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2015. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Edwin J. and Vernell Hargreaves Davis. Phyllis graduated from Oakmont High School in Oakmont, PA and attended Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. She and her late husband, Harry N. Edmiston, spent 16 years in Boardman, Ohio (Mahoning County) before moving to Mansfield, Ohio in 1963. In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers, Merrill E. and David E. Davis. She is survived by her four children, Nancy V. Rolley (Don), H. Norm (Julie), Nyssa E. Pymer (Kelly Moody), and Mark D. (Mary Sue), and her grandson Paul Smith (Pam), who was really like a fifth child to her, grandchildren Jason Edmiston, Jenny Porada and Jeff Edmiston, Courtney Mackert (Randy), and Jaime Wheeler (Jamie), five great grandchildren also survive her, as do her sister Nancy D. Nyrop, sister-in-law Janice W. Davis, and special nieces and nephews. Phyllis lived a full and happy life, and was the glue that held her family close, no matter where they wandered. Phyllis retired from working 24 years as an LPN at the old Mansfield General Hospital, a career she had longed for and pursued later in her adult life. It was there that she made many lifelong friends with her colleagues. She was a competent, caring nurse. Phyllis was an avid reader, so books were always her favorite gifts. She loved animals, and had a particular fondness for golden retrievers, which is why she supported Golden Retrievers in Need (GRIN). A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue. The Rev. Kent Joy will officiate. A private interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery. I am trying to find genealogy of the Edmistons. Here is some linage info: The "Edmiston" lineage comes on two sides from Scotland and Scot/Irish heritage. In the 1300's there were part of the Brus's of Scotland (the Monarchy of sorts) until "dethroned" by England. This lineage includes the Edmiston (also spelled Edmondson, Edmonston or Edmondstone because people really couldn't spell except phonetically at the time) and the Glen (Glenn) family and the Tucker's. We know her great great grandfather was Leonidas Colin Edmiston and wife Margaret Abigail Tucker. Can you help me? Has anyone been to the Scotland's People Centre in Edinburgh's Register House, can they help me? I want to surprise here and go to some real archive and show her her heritiage and get her tartan and crest. I need help quickly please and thanks, Jackie Cozza .1.714.539.0123 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
