    1. Message from List Administrator - Changes to Rootsweb mailing lists
    2. Bret Busby
    3. Rootsweb is changing the operation of its mailing lists. You should probably have already received a message from Rootsweb, advising that the lists are to be changed. When this list has been changed, you should get a Welcome message, advising that you have been subscribed to the new version of the list. That should not mean that you have been subscribed to an extra mailing list, only that your subscription to the list to which you are now subscribed, has been transferred to the new version of the list. When you receive that Welcome message, please read it and keep it. Amongst other information, it will have the new email address to which messages are to be addressed, for posting to the mailing list. For any questions, or problems, please ask the Rootsweb helpdesk, by using the form at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/form1.html I understand that I will have to go through all of the list settings, after the list has been changed, so a period of time, may occur, during which the list operates differently, due to the list settings having been erased. -- Bret Busby List Administrator Armadale West Australia .............. 2. Sandra Williamson
    3. Hi Brett, While conducting research I have discovered the following references (see below), I've come accross what I think are John Ebbott's will in the cornish archives (All the dates tie in nicely as do the names). I've written to the archive to find out how much it would cost to get copies etc. These may be the wills that Jocelyn Mckenzie was refering to however I thought it was still worth following up. I have emailed the archives but have yet to recieve a reply (email sent on the 8/5/2005) Does anyone have contacts in Cornwall perhaps it would be easier if someone just went to the Cornish archives? 3. Hello. The message below, is the result of contacting the Queensland Family History Society about Jocelyn McKenzie. I have posted queries to the AUS-QLD and the Cornwall-To-Australia rootsweb lists, relating to her, so I think that all I can do now, is wait and see whether I get a response. -- Bret Busby Armadale West Australia .............. I have been sent a copy of an article from page 95 of Volume 6 No. 6 December 1985 issue of the Queensland Family Historian. The article has the title "A bit about Ebbott", and has the article author's details, as Jocelyn Mackenzie 17 Seven Oaks Street Taringa Queensland 4068. I have seached the Telecom White Pages online directory, and, phoned the Telecom White Pages telphone service, and found no listing for the name McKenzie at that address. Could you please advise me as to whether Jocelyn McKenzie is still a member of the Queensland Family History Society, and, if you have current contact details for her, could you please ask her to contact me, or, with her permission, pass her contact details on to me? As I have no idea of her age at the time of the article, and, therefore, whether she is still alive, could you please advise me as to whether you know whether she is still living? If she happens to be dead, if you are aware of any of her living immediate relatives, could you please contact them, and, ask them to contact me? I am not sure (in the absence of adequate information) of the exact relationship between us, but we appear to share the common ancestors, John Ebbott (son of Philip Upton Ebbott and Mary Ferrett) and Sarah Bone. 1. ARticle re- Ebbott family
    2. Sandra Williamson
    3. While reseraching in the Geneological Society of Victoria I came accross the following article printed in athe Queensland Family Historian and thought others might be interested. I have not tried to contact jocelyn as I thought she might be able to share some interesting information about the Ebbott family. Has anyone been incontact with her? Sandra "Researching the Cornish name Ebbott (my maiden name), I joined the Cronwall Family History Society to learn more about the people, emigration, etc. After l;istening to our Secretary, Dorothy, at our monthly meetings, begging members to forward their strays to our Stgrays Co-ordinator, Rae, I did just that. But as the Cornwall FHS were also begging for strays I sent my Victorian/Cornish miner strays to Mr. Crigg, the Strays Co-ordinator of the Cornwall FHS, with a request for details of any strays, as strays collected by British Societies before May 1982 are held by the 'home' FHS. As the surname Ebbott is unusual and scare(none of this surname now in the Cornwall or Devon telephone directories) and a number of the children had gone to the USA, I mentioned that Kelly's Post Office Directory 1856 showed a Phillip Ebbott as farming at Trengrine in Treneglos with Warbstow, who was thought to be an older brother of our John who came to Victoria in 1849, with his family. Imagine my delight on receiving Mr. Grigg's reply when he informed me that his parents now farm Trengrine (Trengune) in Treneglos with Warbstow, Mr. Grigg kindly forward details, having searched all possible B.D.M., census, M.I's etc for the Warbstow area. He then advised me that our John's mother Mary Ferrett was a first cousin to his gt-gt-gt-grandfather Peter Ferrett and requested full details of all children. So a big thank you to our Secretary. Now the sad part - the County Recrod Office, Cornwall County Council, Truru, kindly searched their probate records from 1600 to 1857, advising that the wills which were lost in the war were those which were proved at the probate courts in Exeter; most Cornish wills, however, were proved at Archdeaconry of Cornwall probate court, from 1600, about 99% of these survive and are held at thier office. The published index of these Wills listed six Ebbott wills (post 1600) - all these wills are now missing. The Assistant Archivist advised this may just be coincidence, but one is alsmot tempted to imagine that some earlier Ebbott researcher removed them from the probate registry, where the wills were held before their transfere to the County Record Office in the 1950's. The will registers only survive from 1690, so the CRO cannot provide copies from that source..... Please look after the records! Jocelyn McKenzie, 17 Seven Oaks SXtreet, Taringa, Q. 4068"

    3. Hi every one, I've come to the conclusion that John Ebbot (1752) & Wilmot Baker (1752/5) had two children and Philip Ebbott & Mary had ten but what confounds me is why three children from these two families appear twice at different places for christening see details below. [at least on the LDS family serach site] Does anyone know why?
