    1. Eli Eaton-Hawkins Co, Tn
    2. Looking for ancestors of ELI EATON, b. 1825 Hawkins Co., Tennessee, died 1877 Stoddard County, Missouri. Married 1847 to REBECCA M. RUTLEDGE, b. 1830, Tn. They migrated to Stoddard County, Mo., ca 1852 where they settled near Bloomfield. Eli's parents may have been JOSEPH EATON and MARGRETT ?. They were also from Hawkins County, were the right age to have been his parents, and followed to Stoddard County. No proof. This family is believed to have been descended from Joseph Eaton of Washington County, Va. Joseph was a Rev War vet, and moved to Grainger County, Tn., ca 1796. He died there. One of his children was a Dr. Robert Donnelson Eaton. The family is believed to have been of Scotch-Irish origin, and may have originally spelled their name "Eyton". Help! Phil Eaton

    1. INTERESTING INFO ON THE LETTER "J" .. sorry it this is a duplicate for some
    2. Sally Pavia
    3. THE LETTER "J" When was the letter "J" added to the alphabet? For example, on some early New England tombstones, John was spelled Lohn. In ancient times "i" was used for both a vowel and a consonant sound. Later a hook was added to the "i" as a decoration especially when "i" was more likely to have a consonant sound in this position, the hooked "i" came to be associated with the "j" sound. Not until the beginning of the 19th century did the "new" letter merit its own assigned place as the tenth letter of the alphabet in dictionaries. Noah Webster, in his 1806 dictionary, was one of the first to implement this separation of "i" and "j" (Ritland Herald. 7 Jan 1996 by Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 10th Ed.)
