Here is a new TOY for those of you who have access to the Web! RootsWeb Mailing Lists -- Interactive Search http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl This is an interface to the archives for most of the RootsWeb mailing lists through the end of November, 1997. A few lists are missing, either because they did not want to participate, or because of a temporary shortage of disk space. We hope to have the lists for which there was no room available here in the next two or days, so check back soon. Lane sent this message to me today. Lyle R. Riedinger, host .

<On 19 Nov 1997 Jean Shanelec wrote regarding David EATON> Dear Jean: Both of us are interested in your Wed. 19 Nov. posting re. David EATON. Dick has two EATON women in his ancestry: 1) Jemima (ca1774-1826) m. ca 1795 Enoch HAWKINS (1765-aft1828), lived in Chenago and Broome Cos, NY; her parents the subject of a long, vain search. 2) Mary-3 (ca1668-1746) (Daniel-2, William-1), very uncertainly documented. Isabel is tracing for a friend: Abigail-7 EATON (William-6, William-5, John-4, John-3, John-2, John-1. Are we treading common ground anywhere? Isabel is also wondering if we have any connection in Sutton, NH-Tunbridge, VT: her Jonathan ROBERTS received land in Tunbridge in 1782, died there 1 Jan 1806; his widow, Hannah, died aft. 5 Apr 1810 when she signed a deed. Are they the Jonathan-4 & Hannah (-?-) ROBERTS (Jonathan-3 & Deliverance (SMITH), John-2, George-1) in East Andover, NH until 1780 - also in Salisbury, NH, and perhaps in Sutton with his good friend Rev. Nathaniel KING? I have my line down from the Tunbridge Jonathan, and some data on the NH Jonathan, but can't prove they are the same man! Samuel EATON witnessed Jonathan's will, 19 Mar 1805. Are any of these people familiar to you? Looking forward to hearing from you, Dick & Isabel Coburn
Since there appears to be some interest concerning David Eaton (1738-1804), I am submitting this list of his children. I have just now joined the EATON List; therefore this may be repetitious. Since I have not worked on my Eaton lineage in several years, corrections and additions may be in order. I am descended from James Eaton, child v. below, through his son Caius Marius Eaton & Lucy Paine. I would be interested in hearing from any Eaton Cousins, however far removed. Hi Jack: Couldn't raise you on "J4777@aol.com". Thanks for your replies of Oct 15 and Nov 1, 1997. One of the problems with Jemima EATON is that we do not know WHERE she came from or married so it is difficult to know where to search for vital records. We will take your suggestion regarding "KKelley933@aol.com" as a possible WILLIAMS source. Thanks for your efforts. Best regards. Dick
The mention of David Eaton of Massachusetts in the 1700s caught my attention--first because that's my name, but more because I have not made the Massachusetts connection for my ancestor Joshua S. Eaton born 1791 in MA. I don't think I have posted all this info about him since I found it this past summer at the library, so here it is (anyone recognize Joshua or his 3 wives)? Most places and references mentioned are in reference to Union County, Ohio. See more of the family at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3505 0 EATON Joshua S., born 1791 in MA [census], died 1 Sep 1863. David Eaton, the son of Benjamin Eaton & Anna Rand, was born in Haverill, Essex County MA in 1738 and died in Sutton, Marrimack County NH in 1804. He married Elinor Clements (1744-1822) in 1761 in Haverill. I descend from David's son James Eaton who married Mary (Polly) Brockelbank. Their son Caius Marius Eaton was my great-great grandfather. I would like to compare notes with descendants of any of the above EATONs. Jean Fyffe Shanelec

Hello to Eaton researchers, Family has searched for long time for parents of Dyerdamy EATON, b.abt 1765. According to her tombstone, she was "a native of Williamstown,MA." She was married October 1, 1788 to Nathaniel Holdridge, in New Ashford twp, Berkshire County, MA. Dyerdamy and Nathaniel then moved to Otsego County, NY, and then to Chautauqua County, NY by 1809. We think they owned land there that was part of the Holland Purchase. The son of Dyerdamy EATON Holdridge was Henry Holdridge. When he and his wife (Mahala Hoswell) and family moved in the early 1840's to Hillsdale County, Michigan, Dyerdamy and Nathaniel moved with them. It is in West Reading Cemetary, Reading twp., Hillsdale County, MI, that Nathaniel and Dyerdamy EATON Holdridge are buried. Dyerdamy died on November 14, 1845. Would appreciate any leads or connections you might have. Thank you. Ann Bordeaux gggggranddaughter of Dyerdamy EATON Also researching HOLDRIDGE, HOSWELL, and WARNER
I have been receiving EATON mail since July. Is it possible to review the material that has "passed through" previous to this time? Thanks, Natalie
Hi Eatons, I have just received the pension papers for Clement Harrison Eaton in the Civil War from Tennessee. He went into the Civil War under the name of Harrison Eaton. If interested, contact me. Sylvia
Hi Natalie, I have a couple of Eaton's in Cumberland (Perry) County PA around 1809, supposedly born in Ireland, but that's about as good as it gets. I don't know if they were in transition and that's why I find so few of them, or if it was only part of the family, or if they had already moved on. Jane Eaton marred Joseph Hunter 1803 in Cumberland (Perry) County PA; they had children and moved the whole family to Miami County, OH in 1811. I haven't heard from many people with Eaton in PA. Hi Eaton fans, Am trying to track down the descendants of and ancestors of Nathaniel Eaton of Bradford and Tioga Counties, PA. Nathaniel was born about 1805 (according to 1850 census) and married in 1833 Eliza Kellogg in Wyalusing, PA. He died in 1864 at Andersonville Prison. I have gaps ... do I have gaps!! Was Nathaniel's father William Eaton who came from Springfield, MA to Bradford Cty about 1807 with another young man named Abel Eaton? Was his mother Asenath Loomis? He is never listed among their children. Would love to know who his parents were. Is it possible that Abel was his father? Can find nothing on Abel. Bradford County knows nothing more than what I have found. Guess I need a personal contact, and I hope one of you reading this will have some clues. Thanks . . . Natalie Gehl

It's a beautiful 60 degrees in Seattle, the sun shone all day, the trees are turning red and gold, and life is good. I have no real trouble receiving the messages on the Eaton list. This message you just sent to us does not have word wrap; apparently some browsers don't have this feature. The lines can get quite long and the messages are difficult to read (I always get a little seasick bouncing back and forth from one end of the line to the beginning of the next). I still have not found the parents of Jane EATON, born 1784 in northern Ireland, married Joseph HUNTER 1803, Cumberland (Perry) County, Pennsylvania, so any suggestions would be more than I have right now. I am hosting the Eaton, Nims, Riedinger and Tubbs families on rootsweb. The following have subscribed: Eaton - 95, Tubbs - 38, Nims - 13 and Riedinger - 10. The lists were started on Maiser but since transferred to Rootsweb. I had a stroke in April and spent most of the summer recovering. I have up graded my genealogy program, Family Origins by Parsons and E-mail to Outlook Express. I have reports that some on Juno have trouble receive my mail. Nathan, the high school senior boy that keeps my computer running, wants to know how many people have trouble receiving my message. The main function of the rootsweb is genealogy, but it cant operate without people and computers. So feel free tell when you have a blizzard or a flood, right now it is 27 degrees in Humboldt, Iowa.
