SAWYER, Robert L. 76, of Springfield, died Thursday evening, December 25, 2008 in Springfield Regional Medical Center following several months of failing health. He was born in Tipp City on September 26, 1932 the son of the late Stanley and Margaret (Johnson) Sawyer. Bob served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the conclusion of WWII and the Korean War. He retired from the International Harvester Assembly Plant in 1989 following 30 years of service. He was a passionate golfer and he worked as a starter at Reid Golf Course for several years. He also enjoyed going to auctions. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlotte (Dillon) Sawyer; four children, Thomas Sawyer (Shirley Whitaker) of Woodstock, Georgia, Becky (Mike) Peyton of Springfield, Stanley Sawyer of Springfield, and David Sawyer of Springfield; and ten grandchildren, Kevin Sawyer, Justin and Ashley Oren, Stephanie and Bobby Peyton, Amannda and Austan Sawyer, and Coty, Billy and Lil' Dave Sawyer. Also sur! viving are three sisters, Betty Hustead and Sarah Donahue, both of Springfield and Lillian Fain of San Diego, California, and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Monday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Bob's funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Allen Ault officiating.
