    2. William B. “Bill” Rice, 95, of Flatwoods, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. Mr. Rice was born Nov. 17, 1912, and raised in Greenup County, a son of the late H. Lawrence and Effie Burns Rice. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Lee Harrell and Dorothy Neely, and a nephew, Henry Neely Jr. He retired as a general foreman from Armco Steel in 1977. He was a member of Greenup Christian Church and transferred to Russell Christian Church in 1940, which is now Bridges Christian Church. He was an elder and served on the church board of Russell Christian Church for 43 years and was a teacher of Sunday school classes for 65 years and was a member of the adult choir. He was a member of Smith Lodge 775, F&AM, for many years. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Gertrude Arthur Rice. They were wed on June 2, 1940. Also surviving are two nephews, Jerry R. Harrell of Wilmington, Del., and Roger Arthur of Russell; two great-nephews, Douglas and David Harrell of Wilmington, Del.; and a great-niece, Lisa Arthur of Columbus. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by pastors Mark McKinney and Monty Cooper. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
