CONLEY, SFC (Ret.) George 79, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, formerly of Greene County, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born November 6, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late George Elmer and Margaret Kathrin (Sadiler) Conley. George was a longtime resident of Greene County. He attended the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphan's Home (OS&SO) from 1938 to 1947. George served his country in the United States Army as a sergeant in communications for 22 years, 9 months and 13 days; with three tours of duty in Korea, one in Vietnam and was also deployed to Ethiopia, Africa before retiring in 1971. Following his military service, George was also employed at American Builders and the Oakwood Library. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel in 2004; brothers William James, James William and Robert; sisters, Mary Conley Baisden and Martha Conley Perkins; step-brothers Charles Held, Horace "Bud" Held, John Held and Daniel Held and st! ep-sisters Anna Held and Ruth Held Miller. George is survived by one son Mike (Mary) Conley, Jonesboro, Arkansas; three daughters, Kathy (Tom) Swartz, Phoenix, Arizona, Robin (Larry) Pulliam, San Antonio, Texas and Rene (Tom) Fowler, Jeffersonville, Ohio. He leaves 11 grandchildren, Jonathan Conley, Sarah Sarton and Ruth Colfield, Arkansas, Steve Ward, Xenia, Mandi Walker, Jamestown, Candice Masterson, California, Alicia and Lance Pulliam, Texas, Natalie Fowler, Columbus and Neill and Nick Fowler, Jeffersonville and nine great grandchildren. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday in the Conroy Funeral Home, 1660 E. High St., Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Rev. Pete Creamer officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made to the American Heart Association or the USO. Following the graveside! service, a gathering of friends and family will be held at the Pleasa nt View Church of Christ at 6906 Upper Jamestown Road NW, Jeffersonville.?
